With Christmas time coming quickly, I thought I'd just share this article from CNN in case you have not seen it or are not aware of this.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- U.S. safety officials have voluntarily recalled about 4.2 million Chinese-made Aqua Dots toys contaminated with a powerful "date rape" drug that has caused some children to vomit and lose consciousness upon ingesting the contents.
art.bindeez.toy.jpg

Bindeez, which were named Australia's toy of the year, contain a chemical that converts into a "date rape" drug.

Scientists have found the highly popular holiday toy contains a chemical that, once metabolized, converts into the toxic "date rape" drug GHB (gamma-hydroxy butyrate), U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) spokesman Scott Wolfson told CNN.

"Children who swallow the beads can become comatose, develop respiratory depression or have seizures," a CPSC statement warned.

"Anyone with Aqua Dots at home should throw them out," CPSC spokeswoman Julie Vallese said. The toy was named toy of the year in Australia and recently made Wal-Mart Store Inc's list of top 12 Christmas toys.

Wal-Mart on Thursday listed Aqua Dots on its Web site as "out of stock online" and had removed the toy from its top toy list as well.

The arts and craft beads, aimed at children four years and older, have been selling since April at major U.S. retail stores as "Aqua Dots" and in Australia under the name "Bindeez Beads."

Toronto-based toy distributor Spin Master Ltd. stopped shipping the Aqua Dots toys and asked retailers to pull them off their shelves, where they had sold for $17-$30. Video Watch what's known about the beads »

Melbourne-based Moose Enterprise Pty. Ltd. recalled the Bindeez toys on Tuesday after three children in Australia swallowed large quantities of the beads and were hospitalized.

"I was so frightened because I thought she wasn't going to make it," Heather Lehane told CNN affiliate Network 7 of her 10-year-old daughter, Charlotte, who was among those children.

In the United States, the Washington-based safety commission said it has in recent days received two reports detailing the severe effects of the digested beads.

The CPSC said a boy nearly two years old "swallowed several dozen beads. He became dizzy and vomited several times before slipping into a comatose state for a period of time." The toddler was hospitalized and has since "fully recovered," the commission added.

In the second incident, a child vomited, fell into a coma and was hospitalized for five days. It was not immediately clear whether the child had made a full recovery.

The recall is the latest to target Chinese-made toys. Last month, U.S. government safety officials and retailers voluntarily recalled at least 69,000 Chinese-made toys over concerns of excessive amounts of lead paint, which can cause lead poisoning. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend

They told me to call the Sheriff's Dept. I did. A wonderful, kind deputy arrived at my home and tried to open the van. She was unsuccessful yet she made sure that I was taken care of. She called her supervisor and he came out and got it unlocked. They truly went out of their way to help a fellow citizen. That is the kind of Sheriff's dept. we can all be proud of. Thank you for telling us there was no free speech! Apparently it isn't even important enough to explain that day why it is missing. If I were you I would just drop it entirely.
The logic of no print free speech, therefore no on-line free speech, is fascinating! Is it a lack of effort or a lack of paper or a lack of on-line space?

Submitted by Nitpickers on Mon, 11/05/2007 - 3:46am.

The dropping of free speech last week, and not even publishing it on-line---where I think there is room--coincides with only carrying some comments a few hours.

My children have played for the Packers association many years. We have always had a fantastic experience whether it was a winning season or not. I can’t say enough about the excellent instruction they have received, or the lifelong friendships that have been made. After watching the Packers play for so many years, I am quite certain in a few years, the citizens of Peachtree City will be proud to say that a NCAA Division 1A player or even the NFL had his start in the PTC Packers. I am also not so naïve to know there might be valid reasons behind many decisions, such as it is the city of PTC that requires the lights to be turned off at 8 p.m. and that there are two other parks, Brooks and Fayette County, who vote on rulings. This often leaves the Packers out voted 2/3. Like every non-profit organization, it takes people willing to give up their time to make something successful. Thank you to all those who have volunteered to make it a great park. Whether you were my children’s coach or just a parent that picked up the trash, I thank you. GO PACKERS!

Tyrone Forum - Free Speech

It is no secret that government is about power and groups just switch power but sometimes a group gets too out of control and a change is needed. That is what is happening in Tyrone.

Whoever gets elected is not expected to be much different from a typical local government representative; and politicians do not have a good reputation as a group. You often hear people say, you can't trust a politician, the government/politicians are crooked, and the like.....but there MUST be recognition of the exception that the current Tyrone government, especially its' employees, has gone too far, crossed too many lines, treated people like dirt, disregarded citizens problems that are brought to their attention, and created way too many problems. Whether you believe it or not, there is a great deal of evidence to support this assertion.

But the true test is the public opinion and the current town manager, Barry Amos, has made a lot of people mad and scared. Mike Smola has also treated the citizens with disdain, treating citizens as if they were stupid, talking down to them and for this he has gotten a questionable if not bad reputation. We need a change. Smola is also very misogynistic towards Grace Calwell & Gloria Furr.

Merriam-Webster's Medical Dictionary -
Main Entry: mi·sog·y·nis·tic
Function: adjective: having or showing a hatred and distrust of women.

Maybe this is why Grace & Gloria have not been able to get much done on behalf of the citizens who have asked for their help. In any vote, Latourneau & Smola vote against Grace & Gloria creating a tie that is broken by Mayor Sheryl Lee. What a raw deal!!

THE TYRONE NEIGHBORHOOD ALLIANCE:
The TNA is actually not a well known group. I did not even know about them until this blogging about them started. I don't know who is on it or what they do - of this statement, I swear the truth. If anyone knows, please post some information on it on the blog at www.thecitizen.com.

There were a lot of people present at the forum last Monday night. Only about 350-400 people vote in Tyrone. There were about 80 people at the forum. Maybe the issue of the town's communication, or lack thereof, and the town's consideration of its citizens issues should be taken into account. Maybe there were people who did not know about the forum but would have come if they could.

It is not just the same people, I don't think. There are definite groups but there are other people too and we don't appreciate being discounted by the common statements on the blog that th TNA is behind everything and that the forum was attended only by TNA members.

Gordon Shenkle, Tracy Young, and Don Rehwaldt all supported open government and greater communication to those affected by what the town is doing; they all were for increased notification of zoning decisions and whatnot. I am committed to that as well.

I do not think Jesse Nas and Ken Matthews came off too well, unfortunately. In my opinion, they seemed the least knowledgable and had little to no vision. For me, Rehwaldt, Young and, Shenkle came off the best!!

But I have to totally agree with another person's analysis of Smola/Dial - the ethical violating duet. Thanks!! DIALOLA - they both have a documented history of deceit and questionable ethical conduct, as well as being derogatory towards citizens, especially women.

If you are smart, you will vote for Don Rehwaldt for Mayor; and Tracy Young & Gordon Shendle for town council. Then maybe the town of Tyrone can do a turn around and become the place we used to love!!

Submitted by PROOF on Mon, 10/22/2007 - 2:49pm.

I agree with Tyrone90210 on the blog at www.thecitizen.com. For the election - Nola Smola and Nola Diala = No Dialola!! Smola, well, there is not much left to say. He is not good for Tyrone. Time and time again he has overlooked citizens concerns to the point of making citizens file lawsuits over issues that could have been handled by the town council, if they would just work with people. But instead, we just get the cold, stone face and sneering look of Smola. No one is going to vote for Smola, because nobody likes him or his wife for that matter.

ERIC DIAL: a political lobbyist - Tyrone doesn't need this either.

Complaint Filed Against Candidate, Political lobbyist Eric Dial and his organization the Safety & Prosperity Coalition (when you try to visit Dial's website for the coalition, you can't get on because it is password protected - how does that help make GA prosper or make it safe. It actually scares me and I am scared of Eric Dial. He came into the race very late, never been at any Tyrone town hall meetings. This makes me think he was hand-picked by Barry Amos to get votes away from Gordon Shenkle, who is the best man for the job!!)

The article reports that a complaint filed against Georgia Supreme Court candidate Mike Wiggins, his campaign, and an interest group (The Safety & Prosperity Coalition headed by ERIC DIAL) alleges that the three violated the Ethics in Government Act and broke campaign finance laws by communicating with each other. The complaint, filed by Atlanta attorney Gary Andrews, says that the Safety and Prosperity Coalition (ERIC DIAL) recruited Mr. Wiggins to run, promised to finance his campaign, and provided him with a campaign manager who has directed his political strategy. Georgia law allows political action committees to give $5,000 per election to statewide candidates. Independent committees (like Dial's Safety & Prosperity Coalition) can spend unlimited amounts of money to support a candidate, but they cannot coordinate their efforts. Mr. Andrews’ allegations contain a number of purported emails between Mr. Wiggins’ campaign and the coalition (Eric Dial. (these e-mails basically show Eric Dial illegally coordinating efforts with Wiggins and his campaign for Supreme Court Judge last year, which he lost!!) Dial is still under investigation!!

Come voting day - Dial you are going to be held accountable for some of this. We don't need political lobbyists who are already under investigation by the GA Ethics Commission involved in Tyrone politics. It is already too bad in Tyrone and Eric Dial brings no hope to the table, only more under-handed, non-accountable, and unethical practices.

VOTE GORDON SHENKLE!!

To the person who made the comment concerning the school in Tyrone. This school is loved by many and our children are the most important focus. If you disagree with someone or something, have the courage to speak with the principal. Most of the parents in the school don't even know why you are angry and our children are suffering because they are hearing your bad words and seeing your evil deeds. We can only guess it is because we have a new principal and you are trying to make her life hell. Did you know how stressful this can be for a person? Do you even know that her mother and father are both in the hospital, very ill? We are supposed to be christians. I do not see this reflected by the few who are causing these problems. Not only are our children hurting from this, but yours as well. We are a christian school and the actions you few people have taken are inappropriate. If you really want to leave the school, there are ways to get out of your contract, or you can stay and try to make our lives miserable. I said try. There are wonderful parents and children at this school and I believe we will work through this and be even better for it. I've seen more time and energy go in to hurting the school than helping. Wow, just think if you used all that time to do something really good for the school, how pleasing that would be in Gods eyes! Before I make a big decision, I try to imagine what God would do in that situation. I really don't think he wants people causing chaos at our school. Not only are you causing disturbances at school but also at our beloved church. And you did this in front of my children and I do not appreciate it. Work it out with the adults, don't push your agenda in front of my young children.

Fayette County have nothing better to do than complain. I was a resident here for 15 years, and I just recently moved to coastal Georgia. It’s better here because I don't have to deal with the stuck up snobby attitudes of the Fayettenamese people. Anyways, I'm going to act like a Fayette county resident and complain about yall's constant complaining. Why would you not want a goodwill store? Do you realize that you could get a t-shirt for 99 cents? I also read about people in Peachtree city complaining because they have Kohl’s instead of Dillard's. Ok that’s ridiculous... get in your gas guzzling suburban or expedition and drive 15 minutes to Newnan. I'm surprised ya'll haven't already gotten the Peachtree Wal-mart to close down because if you're too good for a thrift store then you are too good for Wal-mart also. Ok I'm going to try to stop complaining now because it irritates me to no end how you people think you are better than everyone else because you live in Fayette County. Nothing about your county makes you better than anyone else in this state. Quite frankly, everyone that has heard about or visited Fayette County doesn't understand how a whole community could be so snobby towards others (especially towards people from Clayton or Fulton counties). Your county is going to be just like your neighbors to the north, so just face it and stop whining. By the way, traffic in Fayette County is enough to drive someone mad. There’s a solution to that problem, and it’s called MARTA.

It is what eventually comes out of the sewer pipes near the treatment facility. What we treat and drink. Or is that effluent?
I think they both mean the same thing for many citizens here!

The restaurant that opened at the old Du Roc site is a hit! The price is right; service great; food outstanding! Try it!

Submitted by dollaradayandfound on Tue, 08/07/2007 - 7:41pm.

The $5.99 price will last about 30-60 days. Then 7.50, plus drink.
No restaurant of that size at any quantity of customers can stay in buiness at $5.99, even for the cheap meat cuts and bad chicken they serve. Doesn't compare very well with Picadilly or Ryan's at all at $8.00, plus drink.
The clientele is however somewhat different and they will do well at at 7.50, plus drink, if well managed and kept clean and the gutters cleaned.

I just got off the phone with a girlfriend telling her I had heard a new meat and 3 had opened in the old Du Rock. Is its name Goldies or Johnnies? Is it all you can eat or a meat and 3? I've heard that its both from different blogs. Are they open for dinner, and do they take credit cards?
We're planning on going Thursday night, so if anyone can give me correct info, please do!

Submitted by bladderq on Tue, 08/07/2007 - 6:19pm.

What dif does the name make? You know where it is. You sorta know what it is. And a credit card? Just take that 20 you keep in your bra and besure not to eat more than you carry home in you purse. You will be OK.

I haven't been but I guess the owner's are OK w/ everyone on here. No minorities be they Black, Asian or just plain ol' Redneck (they too are endangered in Fayette Co).

It's all you can eat regardless of the name, Goldens just opened up where the old Loco's was in Fayetteville. The place at the old Du Roc is good, at least I enjoyed it, I've been several times.

We ate there a couple of weeks ago different prices depending on what and how much you get, cafeteria style, don't get the green beans. I wasn't that happy with it myself. 7 to 9 dollar range.

Jane, I agree with hutch. Goldens wasn't very good.

Hutch, I finally tried Charlies at the old Du Roc. It was really good! I can't believe the price, what a deal. Smiling
When we were there for lunch, I saw police officers, hospital workers, business people, it was crowded.

I recommend it. Smiling

Wasn't that impressed with the new Goldens. Of course, I should stop eating too. I'm afraid band camp added a pound or two.

Does anyone know:
Is the country restaurant still open on Huddleston. My friend drove by there and said it looked closed. I think it's still open. Which one of us will win this bet?

Submitted by ATLtoPTC on Mon, 09/10/2007 - 2:19pm.

We love GA Cafe! They shifted their hours around this summer, and they are always closed on Saturday (WHY?), so I think a lot of people have expected them to be open when they have been closed. But they are definitely still open for business! In my opinion, they don't advertise well, and not being open on Saturday is crazy, but I really hope they get enough business to stay open because eating there reminds me of Sunday dinners at my grandmother's house!

Submitted by bladderq on Tue, 08/07/2007 - 7:00pm.

I am sure someone will update us on that place. But do just head on over there and eat at Cafe Pig, but I believe they close at 2. You and your friend can git your fix there if the other is closed.
That's been a hard luck place.

Salad was decent. I'm not what to expect for the price they are charging, make me wonder what they are serving. If you're starving, and very low on cash, it MAY be worth a shot.

Of course...cops know the best places to eat.

Sorry, I didn't edit. Given the depth that it reaches at times on the site, I guess, I thought it wouldn't matter. That movie is a work of art and should be given some license.

Didn't you have a problem w/ Ballard's pre-do-cessor? Is your only problem that he showed up to help a fallen member of the Christain faith? That guy's conviction was years in the past & I believe he was w/ a legal (by a long shot) female when he ran afoul of the law.

Do you favor the Fulton DA attitude? Let's prosecute Brian Nichols to death. No matter how much it cost Fulton Co. OR the state taxpayer. Let's put him on Death Row, so we can pay the appeals & wait 20+ years to toast him. That is if they still let us do that given all the problems w/ lethal injection. Somehow, we can put dogs down but not felons.

Let us know before you ask for our vote.

My personal opinion is that the level of community involment on this site is slight and you'll git about 10 votes.... Sorry Cal.
