Water rates rising for Fairburn residents

The City of Fairburn has been acting like a sponge for the last three months absorbing the extra cost of water services in town.

Hunt named officer of the year

Donald R. Hunt of the Fairburn Police Department received the 2003 “Officer of the Year” award at this Monday’s City Council meeting. Mayor Betty Hannah presented Hunt with a plaque commemorating his achievements on the force and informed those at the meeting that Officer Hunt had stopped more “in progress” crimes than any other officer over the previous year.

Hartsfield is now Hartsfield-Jackson

The world’s busiest passenger airport is proud to report it has implemented its new name, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Not only have major roadway and terminal signs changed, but also designations from national and international organizations such as the International Air Transport Association, Airports Council International, Federal Aviation Administration and aeronautical aids have been officially changed.

Health fair held at Banneker High

Banneker High School will host its second annual Health Fair today. It is open to the school’s 1,300+ student body, faculty, and staff, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Spelling bee champ heads to D.C.

Biplab Panda, an eighth-grade student at the Fulton Science Academy, can add another notch to his spelling bee belt. On March 19, Biplab defeated 21 county and district competitors to be declared state champion.

County vendor conference set

Contractors, suppliers, and consultants interested in learning about county procedures and future business opportunities, should attend an upcoming vendor conference that will be hosted by the Fulton County General Services and Parks and Recreation departments.

PTC Flash hosts Cobb track meet

The Peachtree City Flash Youth Track Team hosted a track meet at Riley Field last week for the Cobb County Track League.

Lacrosse squad moves to 8-0

The Peachtree City high school lacrosse team continued its unbeaten streak last weekend at home, winning 13-0 over Tucker and 9-6 over Gwinnett.

Mortensen signs with Arkansas

Landmark Christian School quarterback Alex Mortensen has signed a letter of intent to play football for the University of Arkansas this fall.
