Hartsfield is now Hartsfield-Jackson

The world’s busiest passenger airport is proud to report it has implemented its new name, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Not only have major roadway and terminal signs changed, but also designations from national and international organizations such as the International Air Transport Association, Airports Council International, Federal Aviation Administration and aeronautical aids have been officially changed.

“We have virtually completed the name conversion to the more than 250 signage locations throughout the airport and we are in the process of completing the few remaining minor changes,” stated airport General Manager Ben DeCosta.

“William B. Hartsfield and Maynard H. Jackson, Jr. were two of the city’s finest leaders during their tenures as mayor,” said DeCosta. “Their overall commitment and dedication to the aviation industry, the city of Atlanta and state of Georgia has allowed Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to remain a competitive center for domestic and international air travel while encouraging the inclusion of many small, female and minority-owned companies.”

During October 2003 members of the Atlanta City Council approved the airport’s new name to honor the legacies of former Atlanta mayors William B. Hartsfield and Maynard H. Jackson, Jr. Both men are credited with embracing visionary ideas that pushed the city’s premiere aviation facility toward the forefront of success.
