Spelling bee champ heads to D.C.

Biplab Panda, an eighth-grade student at the Fulton Science Academy, can add another notch to his spelling bee belt. On March 19, Biplab defeated 21 county and district competitors to be declared state champion.

Biplab, who was the state runner-up last year and a two-time winner of the Fulton spelling bee, correctly spelled “semipermeable” to secure the state championship. He now advances to the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. to be held May 30 - June 4.
