Local basketball teams end regular season enter posteseason tournaments

The regular season of high school basketball ended on Friday night and the region tournaments began on Monday. The local teams are hoping to do well enough to advance to the state tournaments, which start next week.

Lightning teams capture state titles

The AFC Lightning 84 Gold boys team and the Lightning 84 White girs team recently captured state titles. The boys won the 2002 Boy's U18 Georgia Snickers State Cup and the girls won the U18 Georgia Soccer Championship.

Fayette County football players sign with colleges

Last Wednesday was National Signing Day, a day when the top football recruits from all around the nation sign with colleges vowing to attend the school and play football there. Fayette County had a number of their high school athletes sign with colleges.

Baseball school comes to Tyrone

The Tyrone Youth Baseball Association will host the nationally recognized Doyle Baseball School on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23 and 24. America's number on baseball school will instruct baseball and softball players between the ages of 6 and 16 in hitting, throwing and fielding during the two day school.

SCAT swimmers do well in Augusta

SCAT swimmers swam in a meet in Augusta recently and had swimmers in almost every console or final in the 11-12, 13-14 and senior age groups.
