Sports Calendar

Registration is underway for Southern Crescent Junior Team Tennis. The age divisions are Grades 2-5, 6-8 and 9-12. matches are played on Fridays at 4 p.m. for grades 2-5 and Saturdays at 9:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. for grades 6-12. The registration deadline is Feb. 24. Phone 770-486-9474.

Peachtree City Little League has extended the registration deadline for their tee ball program until March 15. All girls and boys who will be five or six years old on July 31, 2002, and who meet the residence requirement of the league are eligible to play tee ball in Peachtree City. Teams will be formed in March and practices will begin March 16. games are scheduled to begin after spring break. Players usually participate in two activities per week. The Soccer Centre in Fayetteville will hold an Soccer Skills Camp on Friday, Feb. 15, 2002 at the Centre. There will be half day sessions for Muppets (ages 4-6) and half or full day sessions for players from 7 through 14 years old. Coaches will be Kevin Dumas and Mike Burrell. Dumas is the Director of The Centre and holds an USSF National "C" coaching license and Burrell is the head soccer coach at Griffin High School and a former ALL Conference Goalkeeper in College. The Soccer Centre in Fayetteville will host the Chick-fil-A Presidents' Day 4-a-Side Tournament on Monday Feb. 18, 2002. This is the second of two tournaments in the championship series. The Martin Luther King Day tournament attracted more than 75 teams from around the Metro Atlanta area. There will be both recreation and open divisions for boys and girls from Under 8 through Under 19. The main arena at The Centre is divided into 3 smaller fields and along with the small arena allow 4 games to be played at the same time. The 14th Annual Chamber Golf Tournament will take place at noon on Wednesday, Apr. 17 at Whitewater Country Club. Lunch and registration starts at 11 a.m. and dinner and awards follow the completion of the round. The format will be a Ft. Lauderdale/4 person team and the entry fee is $105 per player. The Fayette County Wrestling Club, open to children Grades 1 through 8, practices two nights a week in the old Fayette County High School gym. The fee for the season is $80, which goes towards the wrestling card, a t-shirt and the FCHS wrestling team. The club finished second in the state last year. Registration is now open for the Ten Star All Star Summer Basketball Camp. The camp, which is invitation only, offers an individual camp and a team camp. School and AAU teams can apply for team camps and boys ages 14-19 are eligible. Phone 704-568-6801 for a brochure and more information.

System U Speed is now recruiting people interested in the highly competitive sport of inline speed skating. The team is currently practicing Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 4:30 to 6:30 at the Newnan Skate Palace. The Fayette County Recreation Department will be accepting the names and telephone numbers of any adults who are interested in playing tennis for fun at the Kiwanis Tennis Courts on Redwine Road. For more information call 770-461-9714.
