Cut the ads from PTC's July 4th parade

Somebody's got to rein in not rain on Peachtree City's annual July 4th parade.

Exposing the urban myth about NEA
By DR. DICK CARPENTER

From time to time, one of our misguided loved ones forwards an e-mail containing an inane urban myth, those stories people swear are true but really aren't. You know the ones I mean.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Tyrone's Cannon makes disagreements personal

I would like to answer your questions and discuss them but first let's get something cleared up. I didn't say that your previous letter was a personal attack on me. I said that, when someone disagrees with you, you put a personal slant on it. I asked if this was necessary. What makes me say this?

'Pappy' says thanks for 'life-altering experience'

Words seem so inadequate to express my appreciation to all those who supported me during the "Survivor: Marquesas" season on CBS.

Wheat campaign unveils weekly 'attack-o-meter'

Each week through the primary election on Aug. 20, the Mike Wheat campaign will be sending "an issue of the week" to the press and stating our position on that issue. We want to inform the voters on our positions, and to motivate our opponent to shift his efforts away from simply attacking Mike to actually stating his positions on these important issues. To that end, we will publish an "attack-o-meter" count each week of letters by his opponent that attack Mike rather than address issues.

Wheat's ads raise very integrity issues he cites
We citizens of Fayette may not vote in the numbers that perhaps we should, but let no political office seeker assume that we are so unconcerned about our county politics that we never verify the campaign claims now filling our mailboxes.

Wheat is most proactive

I've been involved in local government for many years and I've formed the opinion that there is no perfect candidate and only a few depraved.

Chambliss is only candidate to have visited in Fayette

While we are all turning our attention to the local county commission race, please don't forget that we will also be deciding who will represent us in the United States Senate. The person sent to Washington as Georgia's senator will, in all likelihood, decide who controls the Senate. This seat is of incredible importance.

Chambliss opposes new taxes

The Saxby Chambliss for U.S. Senate is the most important race for Georgia and America for the following reasons:

Brown right to be worried about Coweta development

Mayor Steve Brown has just cause to "worry" the Coweta [County] officials will allow rampant development if the proposed [TDK Boulevard] connector is built. Without written safeguards from all parties involved, I'll bet my pension Brown's worst fears will be realized.

What happened to mayor's promises of open government?

I'm a little confused. During last year's mayoral campaign in Peachtree City, Steve Brown used "open and honest government" as a cornerstone of his campaign. Now we find out that he held private conversations with three of four City Council members regarding the hiring of a special investigator to investigate the contract between the city and the Development Authority prior to any proposal or public discussion. The one council member left out of the conversations was Councilwoman Annie McMenamin.

Help out some long-time residents of PTC woods

I wanted to ask the public to please avoid hitting turtles trying to cross the road. We all know jokes about how slow turtles are, but they really do need our help when trying to cross the road.

Spanking is not abuse; kids need appropriate discipline

I read Jill Lech's response (July 3) to the Rev. Epps' comments (June 28 issue). Sadly, her experience at the hands of allegedly abusive parents affected her judgment.

Society gives power to kids

When I was growing up, as well as most of the people reading this, spanking your child didn't end with the possibility of going to jail.
