Ask what you learned, not who won
By DAVE HAMRICK
Editor-at-large

Are we all breathless with anticipation of the second presidential debate tonight?

Raise your hands if you think . . .
By AMY RILEY
One Citizen's Perspective

For those of you who are watching and waiting with bated breath to see who the American public will place at the helm of the ship, please consider that we are living with the aftereffects of political power run amok.

Blather: Billy goes Green

Laugh Lines

I feel I am very structured in my writing and usually have a very specific subject, but every once in while, I guess all of us need to rant incessantly on whatever is on our minds. So with no Elian Gonzalez-sized crusade to attend to, that is what this week's column is about, ranting.

Letters to the Editor

Deputies ride in style in some sporty vehicles

Has anyone noticed the sports cars that the Fayette County Sheriff's deputies are driving these days?

There are no 'bad' children; parenting skills are real issue

In response to Dr. Moffatt's recent article on "good" and "bad" kids, I agree that we need to highlight the positive things our young people are doing and not the negative.

MHS senior defends quality of education for Fayette students

Four. Over 1100. The University of Notre Dame. Emory University. Yale. Mr. Carl A. Thompson may not be able to identify these figures, but most students at McIntosh High School are familiar with them.

FCHS teacher defends quality of students in Fayette system

How unfortunate that you deemed it necessary to publish a letter in your Oct. 4 edition which took one incident and turned it into an indictment of the Fayette County School System. As I read it, I could not help but believe that the writer used it solely to state a position with the politically correct terminology of an agenda he has chosen to believe, adopt and promote.

PTC's volunteer process riddled with politically motivated selections

The recent action of the Peachtree City Council in not reappointing Willis Granger to the Planning Commission brought back my own experience in 1994-95 in applying for an opening on the water and sewer authority and subsequently on the planning commission.

PTC Council made a mistake in not reappointing Granger as planner

I honestly believe the Peachtree City mayor and Council made a mistake by not reappointing Mr. Willis Granger to the Planning Commission.

F'ville misses the point on helping teenagers

We appreciate the many teens from eastern Fayette County and parents who have contacted [and asked] Jitterbuggers teen club to expand into the city of Fayetteville to replace the Market Teen Club which met its demise this summer.

Neither Gore nor Bush trust you with your money

I'm amazed that Al Gore is so close in the polls. Depending on which pole you look at, Gore is ahead. In one recent poll, he is behind by one point. I do not understand how he can be so close when he admits to wanting to spend our money.

Supporters boost county clerk of court candidates

For incumbent Ballard . . .

Throughout the past 14 years, I have practiced in the Atlanta area and have had the honor of being retained in Fayette County cases in my capacity as an attorney. Throughout these years, I have found the Fayette County Superior Court Clerk's Office to be consistently the best clerk's office in the metro Atlanta area. In my opinion, this is due almost entirely to the leadership efforts of Mr. W.A. "Bud" Ballard, the Superior Court Clerk.

For challenger Studdard . . .

I have been a resident of Fayette County for more than 20 years and have raised two children here. Both children are in the Fayette County school system and my wife, Cynthia, teaches here. As I approach retirement, I fully anticipate retiring in Fayette County.
