The problem was not religious but monetary.
He had exhausted his welfare for unknown reasons but had not gotten a job--he is 58, an Airborne veteran, and an engineer by trade, but looks beat up and scraggy.
The Church was helping a lot of poor and jobless people (they are a liberal and a conservative church--liberal for people, conservative for government).
I suppose, but don't know, that he did not want to be affiliated with the religion part of it, but wanted the help.
We have now and will have many more soon, lots of people in his mental state who just want to die at someone else's hand.
Many from Iraq's difficulties, and many more coming from our recession.
Of course some are heritage slaves (or bums if you are conservative) to such conditions also, but they usually are willing to live on less and not take such drastic action.

When I heard this I too thought, I bet he is a Rush or Faux news listener/watcher. They spew nothing but venom/hate and very scary for those gullible enough to believe every word these hypocrites say. Rush has been spewing this same hate message for over 20 years, he just changes the names of the people he goes after. What a negative person this Man is.

Who knows this man could have been listening to Air America and Al Franken or even NPR, or maybe reading moveon.org just to get pumped up. There's just as much "hate" being "spewed" in these and other liberal avenues. Just because you disagree with the message doesn't mean the message is hate. You think these people are positive?

Wow! If you were to work up a profile--age, gender, race, political views, background circumstances--from the average perpetrator in such a crime, you would wind up describing this guy to a T. He could be the poster boy for this crime.

An even better punishment for this homophobic guy would be for a burly, prison dude to take a liking to him in the prison shower and make him his b****.

But I sure do like your way of thinking!! That would be justice--and if the burly guy wanted to share with his equally burly fellow inmates that would be even better.

A real tragedy for that community and for church-goers, of all religions, who just want to worship in peace, and safety.

I find it so ironic, however, that this wacko was being sustained by a socialist/liberal program (foodstamps) that was part of the 'liberal movement' that he so viciously despises. And also, could have used the help of the dreaded ACLU to assist him in NOT being discriminated against, while job hunting at the age of 58.
