ICE Rinks for Peachtree City

One of the other papers thrown in the drive had a major headline about developers meeting with PTC officials and proposing an Athletic Complex including ice hockey rinks for all the Northwest folks coming from up North to PTC.

First I am not sure how they did their research or know how many or few NW people will be migrating, but they pitched the complex as attractive to the city and to new residents.

The combined cost for this and other athletic facilities would be about $19 million dollars.

The it was noted that, the developers would like PTC to float a bond for this expenditure or large parts of it.

Don't know about the rest of you, but developers usually can take a concept,
envision it, build it and operate it on their own for a profit if it's a well thought out idea.

If not or if you need my money to complete your hopeful scheme, get your hands out of my pocket and go away.

I am a hockey "mom" and had a few cents to throw in.

First, I don't have a problem with PTC being given
a pitch for a new facility. People can vote yeah or nay
when presented the facts. My question is.....why not
enclose and install air conditioning for the current rink?
It is unbearable for our hockey-crazed kids to suit up
in bulky protective gear and play hockey in the summer.

Privatization should also be considered if PTC does not
want this. Enclosing the existing rink would help our
kids & make this a quieter sport for adjacent neighborhoods.

Mud hockey is more fun!

Isn't a hockey stick what you use to hit a hockey puck?
Isn't a hockeypuck some idiot?

The citizens would love nothing more than to buy you a white elephant buisness. We could buy this to match the white elephant tennis center fraud that still doesn't even pay for it's own utilities.

Gee, why didn't we think of it on our own????

BECAUSE WE AREN'T DUMBER THAN THE CONCEPT OF SNAKE MITTENS!!!

But, if you catch harold when he is drunk: between 5am one day-3am the next morning he will promise to do this for you.

Please take your hopeless buisness failure idea and go somewhere else. If this really was a good idea you or someone else would already have one up and running and they would be making millions off of it. Who was going to manage this mess for us??? You?? As a private contractor?? Good one!

If an ice skating rink is such a good idea, privately fund it.

All the rinks that I played hockey at on the west coast were private.

We are still paying for the tennis center mess. If this complex is such a great idea and will pay for itself Dar Thompson should have no problem finding investors. The city should not be in the ice rink and fitness center business just as we had no business being in the tennis center business. We are being taxed constantly-we don't need more taxes. These sweetheart deals always end up with the individual making all the money, the residents being taxed and the facility being priced out of many peoples price range. Let's hope the mayor and his cronies do not fall for this one. If it is to be considered it should go to a city wide vote; after all the residents are the ones who will be paying. Another thing, as we know, nothing ever ends up costing what is projected.
