The scoop on cones

Abbott did it for Costello. Sonny did it for Cher. Behind every
star is the straight man, humbly standing in the shadow of his
glitzier partner. A lot of foods play this role too pie
crust, hot dog buns and dry vermouth spring to mind. But our
vote for Best Supporting Actor in a Classic Food Combination
would have to be the cone.

A
honey of a contest
Recipe search coincides with start of football season
For many, tailgating isn't just a pregame meal, it's an obsession.
Ribs, burgers and barbecued chicken are the all-stars of tailgating
feasts, and the key to a winning recipe is in the sauce.
A blend of herbs and spices starts off a great sauce, but there

honey barbecue recipe and see if it scores.

Hautes Glaces, upscale ice creams from Vosges
Haut-Chocolat, put an ultra-sophisticated spin on a summer-time
staple. Flavors include: Pandan (dark chocolate infused
with pandan, a fragrant Asian herb similar to vanilla);
Red Fire (ancho chili powder and cinnamon heating up dark
chocolate ice cream); Wattleseed (white chocolate ice cream
infused with the seed from Australia, which tastes like
a combination of hazelnut, chocolate and coffee); a fourth,
Naga, is a sorbet (coconut, white chocolate and curry flavoring
white chocolate sorbet). MORE
Sausage
savvy
First, lets get past the name: Applegate Farms organic
Fire Roasted Red Pepper Chicken & Turkey Sausage. Phew.
Now to the taste: Most tasters enjoyed the layers of flavor
in these links, though one complained about blandness.
The fully cooked sausages just need to be reheated; they
tasted good on their own, but also would work as part of
a larger recipe. A 12-ounce package of four links is $5
in the refrigerator case at specialty grocers or online
at www.applegatefarms.com.
