Summer has traditionally been a slow time for restaurant openings.
Usually, restaurants try to wait until the fall, when the weathers
cooler.
But Fayette foodies have been fortunate this season. Weve
had our share of openings and one of the best is This is It.
The restaurant is located in front of H.H. Gregg at the Fayette
Pavilion shopping center and specializes in soul food and barbecue.
If you go for lunch, you have a choice of picking items off
the buffet line or picking off the menu. The menu features mouth-watering
barbecue with all the usual sides.
The restaurant also offers delicious fish sandwiches and an
item that is more in tune with Low Country South Carolina cooking-fish
and grits. My uncle used to have this unique combination once
or twice a week for breakfast, and just seeing it on the menu
brought back many good memories.
Ive never been a huge fan of soul food, but This is It
is really good. This is some of the best banana pudding that
I have had in many a year and the restaurant is a worthy addition
to the Fayette dining scene. If you like good country cooking
and a pleasant atmosphere, add this to your regular rotation
of eateries.
Two months ago, I asked readers for their hidden pizza picks.
Somebody told me about a place in Marietta that I plan to try
soon, but I have found my pizza place on this side of town.
If you want a genuine slice of New York pizza, head to Oz on
U.S. Highway 29 in Fairburn. This is a real pizza parlor in the
tradition of many establishments in the Northeast. You can buy
pizza by the slice or by the whole pie, and the choice of toppings
is staggering.
You can get an honest-to-goodness white pie, or go the whole
way with several different meat choices. The calzones are out
of this world, and the restaurant is building quite a following
on the Southside.
I like the gritty feel of the Fairburn store, and I also like
that its on the citys Main Street and you can sit
and watch residents walk and cars ride by the downtown area.
Theres also a location in East Point for residents who
may work near the airport.
If you want a real pizza, be like Dorothy and head to Oz.
