Recipe search coincides with start of football season
For many, tailgating isn't just a pregame meal, it's an obsession.
Ribs, burgers and barbecued chicken are the all-stars of tailgating
feasts, and the key to a winning recipe is in the sauce.
A blend of herbs and spices starts off a great sauce, but there
is one ingredient that gives barbecue an extra special flavor,
and it's honey! Now tailgate chefs have a chance to enter their
honey barbecue recipe and see if it scores.
This football season, the National Honey Board is sponsoring
the "Honey of a BBQ Tailgating Contest," in which the
grand prize is a trip for two to professional football's All-Star
Game in Hawaii. Thirty-two semifinalists will be chosen to represent
each of professional football's 32 teams, and each semifinalist
will win $250.
Recipes can be anything from a sauce or marinade to a salad
dressing, side dish, or even a dessert. The only requirement
is that the recipe includes 1/3 cup of honey.
"There's nothing better on football Sunday than some good
tailgating," said Tony Siragusa, former professional football
player and current FOX commentator. "I love everything barbecued-ribs,
wings and burgers, too. But what makes them extra tasty is a
honey barbecue sauce, and that's why I'm excited to see what
these football fans are going to cook up."
Tailgaters are as passionate about their food as they are about
their team. In fact, nearly half of all tailgaters set up shop
in the parking lots of their favorite teams six to 10 times per
season, and 50 percent roll into the parking lot three to four
hours before a game, with plenty of time to grill up their secret
recipes before the game.
Now tailgaters can root for their favorite football team and
their prized honey barbecue recipe by entering the "Honey
of a BBQ Tailgating Contest."
To enter, go to www.honey.com and submit your recipe online.
