As August heads towards September, Fayette County residents
will be seeking solace from another Georgia summer. While the
weather has been realtively nice, we all know there are still
some dog days to endure.
Coolness can sometimes be a state of mind and can also be found
in some of our dining establishments. With temperatures and tempers
rising, it's time for some cool treats to enjoy in some of Fayette's
dining establishments.
One of the best treats in the county is the Marble Slab Creamery
in The Avenue Shopping Center in Peachtree City or at Fayette
Pavilion.
The store has the feel of many independent ice cream establishments
found in other areas of the country. It offers the best selection
of homemade ice cream in the county and it's also fun to watch
the workers place the ice cream on the slab and add individual
toppings to make a unique treat.
Scoops, which recently opened next to Barnes and Noble in Fayetteville,
also offers some yummy frozen treats along with great sandwiches.
Peachtree City features one of my "coolest" places
for lunch. Pascal's in Westpark Walk is doing a huge business
based on a simple concept. Take several fresh toppings, such
as broccoli, pesto, garlic and chicken and add your favorite
pasta from four varieties.
But Peachtree City has not cornered the market on cool.
Probably the coolest location in the county for a meal is in
the outside seating at the City Cafe in Fayetteville.
Earlier this summer, the nights were cooler and it's always
a delight to sit outside surrounded by fresh flowers and have
a taste of Europe in the county.
Finally, the last bit of cool can be found in Fayetteville and
Peachtree City at any Starbucks location.
One of the most refreshing tastes of the season is a Frappacino,
which is a wonderful iced coffee beverage. I visited the location
at the Avenue one weekday and discovered it is the place to meet
and greet in Peachtree City. The store was overrun with folks
enjoying a delicious coffee and conversation.
Another place that recently opened and offers a great patio
for outdoor dining is Quiznos. Its quickly becoming
a hot spot for downtown workers.
With an abundance of choices, Fayette's foodies should have
no trouble staying cool this summer.
