SPLOST voted down in Fulton

At last week's meeting, the majority of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners voted against a resolution that would have led to a referendum to impose a special one percent special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST).

Salary increase passes

A salary increase for the Mayor and Fairburn City Council members which was first proposed at the Council's July 14 meeting unanimously passed the first reading Monday night.

Golf course acreage rezoned

In an attempt to rein in the acreage once known as the Bear Claw Golf and Country Club, the Fairburn City Council approved a rezoning Monday night of the area now to be developed as Durham Lakes Golf and Country Club off Virlyn B. Smith Road.

New state hunting regulations available

The 2003-2004 Georgia Hunting Seasons and Regulations Guide now is available announces the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division. This guide provides information on season dates, bag limits, hunting licenses, wildlife management areas and much more and is available at www.gohuntgeorgia.com and at over 1,200 license agents, including Bass Pro Shops, Wal-Mart, K-Mart and outdoor sporting goods stores. "The hunting regulations guide is designed to help hunters understand the laws and regulations for hunting in Georgia," said WRD Chief of Game Management Todd Holbrook. "We recommend that even experienced hunters take a look at the new regulations to note any changes to their favorite hunting areas or activities."

Vigil named to Board of Regents

Allan Vigil is more than just the president and a successful owner of two local Ford dealerships, he is also now a member of The University System of Georgia's Board of Regents. Vigil was appointed by Gov. Sonny Perdue and is looking forward to the position.

USCS "Asphalt Thunder" points leader Kenny Adams of Malabar, Fla., drove his #4A Goodson Farms/Putnam County Speedway/C&B Mushrooms-sponsored, Don Ott-powered Shaw car to his 12th USCS win of the seasonin the caution-free, 40-lap United Sprint Car Series main event Saturday night at the Senoia Speedway oval.
