Adams wins sprint car event at Senoia USCS "Asphalt Thunder" points leader Kenny Adams of Malabar, Fla., drove his #4A Goodson Farms/Putnam County Speedway/C&B Mushrooms-sponsored, Don Ott-powered Shaw car to his 12th USCS win of the seasonin the caution-free, 40-lap United Sprint Car Series main event Saturday night at the Senoia Speedway oval. This was Adams' sixth USCS pavement win in 2003, matching his dirt total of six this season as well. Adams bested the field of drivers from seven states to take the Krystal Kwik time award with a near track record 11.729 qualifying lap around the 3/8-mile paved surface. He then swept the Airflow Research PowerDash, won the evening's first heat race and led the last thirty five laps of the $2,500 finale. Defending USCS Champion Terry Gray of Bartlett, Tenn., who celebrated his birthday by winning the main event the previous night at Huntsville Speedway, started in the third row with Adams but could not quite keep up the torrid pace Adams was setting as he raced past pole starter Doug Day of Winder into the lead on lap five and into lapped traffic on lap eight. Day, who was Gray's runner-up in the 2002 title chase, but, has sat out the most of the 2003 season taking care of business matters, had a second great finish in a row in third place. Jim Raptis of Marietta, who is contending with Gray for the 2003 title, finished fourth after starting last. ChrisRogers of Villa Rica rounded out the top five. The balance of the top ten showed Ted Williams of Atlanta in sixth, followed by Willie Stauffer of Winter Park, Fla., in seventh, Aubrey Black of Lookout Mountain, Ga.,in eighth, rookie Will Ragsdale from Easley, S.C., in ninth and Chris Hill of Wedowee, Ala., rounded out the top ten. The race went nonstop and every car finished the event. Adams, as was mentioned, won one of the heat races and Terry Gray won the other heat race. The evening's Huggins Cams "Hardcharger" award went to Jim Raptis, who finished in fourth position after starting last. Raptis blew an engine in hot laps and used amotor borrowed from Kenny Adams in the main event. The KSE Outstanding Driving Performance award for the event went to Doug Day. Will Ragsdale was the Hart Racing "top rookie" driver for the night.
