Blues come to Wolf Creek

Legendary blues singer Bobby "Blue" Bland will perform tomorrow at the final concert of the Wolf Creek MusicFest 2003.

Commission Vice Chairman William "Bill" Edwards will host the free concert at 8 p.m., rain or shine, at Wolf Creek Park, 3025 Merk Road off Camp Creek Parkway in South Fulton.

This is the third concert sponsored by Fulton County this year, and the third year of concerts held at the county-owned park and former Olympic venue. Previous concerts in the 2003 series included jazz bassist Stanley Clarke and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

The previously announced October 4 performances by the Michel Camilo Trio and the Gonzalo Rubalcaba Trio will not be held.

Superstar Bland was one of the main creators of the modern soul-blues sound. His gospel-flavored delivery and big-band sound punctuated by his trademark "Squall" have created hits such as "Turn On Your Love Light," "Don't Cry No More," "Chains of Love," and "Memphis Monday Morning."

Concertgoers can begin arriving at 6 p.m. Blankets and lawn chairs are okay, but grills are not allowed. Refreshments will be sold.

Parking is limited. Free roundtrip shuttle service will be available every half hour from the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC), 6 p.m.-midnight. Parking there is on a first-come, first-served basis. The GICC is just west of the College Park Main Street overpass on Camp Creek Parkway.
