OK Bad PTC. This gunfight reminds me of the intense blogging debates and battles we experience daily on The Citizen Online.

Great!

And timely.

I'm sitting here plucking petals off of a flower to determine what to do:

Move away...Buy a gun...Move away...Buy a gun...

I just did 2 months ago. I do feel safer. I took lessons at Autrey's Armory in Fayetteville.
Put up a sign on your front door with something like this on it: Unless you are in a marked squad car and have a badge number I can verify....this is the wrong home........ NRA!!!!

I would love to have a sign like that in which I could put under my alarm monitoring system sign double deturant lovin that boys and girls....Those guys at Autreys are great. They have awesome instruction and a nice assortment of weapons, and a great range.

Make NO mistake, having a gun in you home is a HUGE responsibility!

If you decide to have a gun for protection, take all the classes you can afford to in order to learn how to use it properly.

For “home” type protection I would recommend a short barreled 12 gauge, double barrel shotgun. With high brass number 6 shot, it’s not likely to exit your house and go into your neighbor’s house. You don’t have to aim real well with one and the noise it makes will probably be enough to scare them to death.

Please don’t do what some people I know did and buy a high powered hand gun or a rifle for the home.

For your carry weapon I would recommend a small Colt or Sig 45 cal. They will not bounce off of windshields like a 9 mm will.

Remember, if you need to shoot it, you need to kill it. A 38 or 9mm might not do that, but a 45 will.

P.S. Get Real can always tell you the story about the fire extinguisher.

What noise does a double barrel make do you mean a pump??? I do like your opinion on weapons...A .40 cal will do the same and has higher capasity....Lovin that!!

BOOM!, BOOM!

Although the sound of the slide on an 870 is distinct and it is well recognized even by those that have never been around guns, it tends to “warn” the perp of on-coming danger.

I have no intention of warning someone who's in my home, to do me or my family harm, that I intend to spray them across the living room wall.

Boy you guys are realy having a good time with being kids trying to imitate a shootgun....I think we should all conseid that the shootgun is the best home defensse gun made...

Yo chief I think you are thinking about a pump not a double gage. A double gage only speaks when it is fired.

A double guage goes Click Click when you pull the triggers back.

A pump goes WHACK RACK when you pump that puppy.

I did not know you were a sound artist, and not all double barrelled shotguns have hammers or even one.

I prefer the Pyro-Tech 5 lb. dry chem professional extiguisher over the cheap 2.5 lb. Kidde homeowners model you would purchase at Home Depot. It packs much more fire power and has a much higher knockout punch.

My weapon of choice in regards to a handgun is the Glock Model 23 (40 SW)with either Starfire or Black Talon rounds at the ready. Training is a must. The short barreled shotgun is my next purchase.

Support your local sheriff!!!!! Except maybe that Clayton County Knucklehead. Ok..him too.

Why do you prefer the .40 vs the .45?

I have to admit, I’ve not read up on the .40 cal.

Submitted by Flydecajon on Tue, 08/29/2006 - 9:01am.

The reason I like the .40 over the .45 is the increased capasity of a .40 you can get 15 in a Mag rather that most .45's are 7-8 and you are not losing that much in foot lbs of power. Both rounds have plenty on knock down power but you get more control, accuracy, and capasity with a .40 S&W If you do have a .45 that holds more it is just so heavy it is hard to articulate around. It tends to be to big and bulky. This is my personal perspective on it I hope it helps you. I think if you try it you will like it Bad_ptc

I have a Para Ordnance P-10, a small .45 around the size of a .38 S&W Chief's Special that I keep in the bedroom, with trigger lock. It has a 10 round mag plus 1 in the chamber!

I do not carry it because it is blue steel and not stainless. I carry in a pocket holster and yeras sgo rusted the slide of my old PPK.

I now carry a Tarus Millenium, 9mm 10+1 with a stainless slide. I use jacketed hollow points, forget if they are Blazer or Gold Sabre.

The 9mm is much better than the .380s that I used to settle for. I may upgrade to a .40 on my next purchase, but feel fine for now. I also must keep it low key, the wife hates guns.

Submitted by Flydecajon on Tue, 08/29/2006 - 9:42am.

Do you feel that Para can get a little heavy with 11 or 10 rounds? If you had to carry it esp if is just for a regular citizen you are retired military so I would presume you would give some to have some take down power. Esp with some of those Officer models of .45 cal they are a little less in capasity

Submitted by ArmyMAJretired on Tue, 08/29/2006 - 10:07am.

The P-10 is comparable in weight and size to several "pocket 9mm or .40 cals".

If I had the stainless version I would carry it in my pocket holster (it fits in the one I carry my Tausus in).

It is just slightly heavier, but would be worth the weight in a life and death situation, like a car jacking or an armed robbery. The only draw back is the single action. You would have to cock the hammer or carry it cocked and locked and take off the safety, it does have a grip safety like most M1911 varients, so accidental discharge is less likely.

Most others noted here Taurus, Glock, etc are double action, draw and pull trigger. That could bmean the differnce in a critical situation.

Thank you for responding back that is a very nice piece.. I like it a lot too. I just like the glock carried in a trigger shielding holster just take it out and go no safety no hammer nothing just point and pull..Very effective in the same situations above, but that .45 has some awesome power for sure. Again thank you for the link.

Submitted by Git Real on Tue, 08/29/2006 - 9:23am.

For many of the reasons Fly stated I also chose the .40. After checking out what various law enforcement agencies carried I found the .40 to be used by many departments. I believe our deputies carry the Model 23. I talked to several officers that carried the .40 and they testified positively about the reliability, ease of use, accuracy, capacity and knock down power that the Model 23 provided. Figured if it was good enough for them it would work for me.

Plus you can bang that puppy around and abuse it and it will still function properly. It's a work horse.

I wonder which weapon Basmati would choose? I figure he's loading up and will weigh in on this one real soon.

Submitted by Flydecajon on Tue, 08/29/2006 - 9:28am.

Git real you are correct on all except they just swiched to the Sig .40 cal I do not know why but they did. That is the county guys but they used to carry the Glock 23 an awesome weapon for combat. It has definitly been combat tested and releable.

Submitted by Flydecajon on Tue, 08/29/2006 - 6:28am.

I agree on your Glock 23 in .40 S&W it is a great weapon for all purposes carry, home, and auto. It does it all I have 3-4 of them they break down for easy cleaning all the Mags are interchangeble, and now that the gun ban is over you can get high cap mags at a nice price for extra loades.

I'm down to less than half a box of talons, any idea where I can get some more?

As there illegal to purchase form a dealer, I'll have to buy them from an individual.

You mean that we civilians can't get Talons anymore? Thought last time I went to a show they still sold them. Hmmmm? Guess I'll check into that.

Running low Bad???? You're not supposed to use them for target shooting at squirrels.

Of course I was shocked to find out that my carry permit was no longer accepted in lieu of one of those yellow sheets.

Submitted by ole sarge on Tue, 08/29/2006 - 6:36am.

Carry permits are good again when making firearm purchases. The difficulty in the past was that Georgia had no provision for verifying original information on concealed carry permit renewals. Thst has since been corrected and FBI background checks are only done on people without permits.

Old Sarge you are right on I made a receint purchase and my carry purmit and my ID was all I needed. Oh except about 700 dollars for the weapon but do not tell my wife.

The only problem with buying another gun is that sooner or later your wife will find out.

I’ve been advised, more than once, “go ahead, keep it up, sooner or later you’re going to have to close your eyes to sleep”.

Besides, how was I to know they would pull them from the market.

I can promise you Old Maids I have killed more squirrels w/ my Daisy 880 than you have fired your Glock.

Submitted by bad_ptc on Tue, 08/29/2006 - 5:33am.

I’ve had my Sig going on 5 years now and have probably gone through several thousand rounds.

My kids have shot about a thousand rounds each just target shooting.

I do have to admit that I can’t recall ever being tracked by a pack of squirrels but I have been tracked followed and challenged by packs of coyotes while coming out of the woods at dark-thirty.

When it’s dark and you’re walking on an old path at night, a rifle/bow isn’t much good at a range of 10 to 20 feet. A handgun is.

Just incase you never had the pleasure, coyotes tend to hunt in packs of 5 – 20 depending on where you are. Add to that the occasional farrell hog with her young, and you can have a real party on your hands in no time.

Now I don’t know if you hunt or not, shooting at squirrels doesn’t really constitute hunting, but when it’s something that can eat you back I plan on winning.

I have yet to see the Daisy 880 that can stop a wild hog. I’m willing to watch you demonstrate it for me. I could learn something.

Submitted by Flydecajon on Tue, 08/29/2006 - 6:10am.

The only problem is it illegal to carry a pistol when you are bow hunting, due to the fact when you are bow hunting you are only supposed to have primitive weapons..A Sig is not a primitive weapon it is a finally tuned piece of machinery that can cause ma ham on just about what ever you want it to..Awesome piece but not allowed to hunt. During gun season you may carry.
The only draw back to a Sig compared to Glock is the first trigger pull the Sig has a long 11 lb trigger pull and a glock has shorter 7-8 lb pull you can also modify it with a piece down to 3 lbs of trigger pull making your first shoot more accurate. After the first shoot the Sig is awesome but all my training always has been the first shot and make it count. If anyone is interested in that piece I will give you a link to order it is only 25 dollars, and easy gun -smithing or just bring to Autreys and they will put it in for you

Take lessons and keep going back every 2 weeks or so to keep up your proficiency.
There are a lot of other creative things you can do also to deter criminals. For example: in my neighborhood we have someone messing or trying to scare or break in on several senior citizens in my neighborhood. They were successful once and they have come back for more. Always at about 2-230am. The people they have targeted are afraid to call the police, because they think they will look foolish.

I say better to look foolish than dead.(but that is just me)

This person has not messed with me yet, but last night I set off a few surprises for this idiot. First I set off my alarm system(yes I stayed up purposely to watch at 2am) and then I played the "you had a bad day" song on all of my outdoor speakers full blast. Then I set off my sprinkler system even though he wasn't on my property I think it startled him. Then I set off my car alarm for good measure. (he took off running) as he was running I set off the sound track I have of people laughing.

I do hope our would be criminal felt welcome in our neighborhood. It was great entertainment for my friends and I. We didn't have to use a gun at all to get our point across.

I do not think Police fire every two weeks just do what you are comfortable with...

Killing it is a more permanent solution.

It also keeps them from breeding.

Submitted by skyspy on Mon, 08/28/2006 - 6:26pm.

But unless he points a gun at me.....all I can do is have fun at his expense. He wasn't on my property, he was on my neighbors property.

If he had been on my property or in my garage I would have called the police.
If he comes in my home without a badge no., my home is the wrong home!!

Even though my retired neighbors won't call the police I can have fun scaring the sh%^ out of this idiot. What is the world coming too if I can't torture a criminal?

I have a Civil War rifle, but I'm not sure I would have time to load--black powder and shot--if someone came though my door.

I was indeed thinking pump action shotgun. I had a nice 20 gauge that belonged to my dad, but it drifted away to some family member years ago.

My dad was a career police officer, and my son still has his .38 service revolver. Would that do for carrying purposes?

Yep, a class would certainly be in order for me. I know to be super-duper careful with storing them, etc., but a good course on general safety would be good.

Perhaps word should get out: Fayette citizens are packing! Smiling

They will sell you and teach you then sign up the the yearly membership to shoot anytime, well worth it if you want to be proficient.
