There is a Mandate!

I have been very quiet over the past few weeks during this election cycle. There has been quite a bit of mudslinging and name calling in the past month or so, but now it is over.

There is a mandate for the FCBOC to act responsibly. Greg, Linda and Peter (especially Greg) need to grow up and stop all of this foolishness. The citizens of this county have spoken with a resounding voice about the actions of the Commission in the past few years. We are all tire of the wasteful spending on litigation, but moreover, we are fed up with the attitude that you feel superior to all of us. Even more disturbing, you try to hide it behind the false assumption that you are doing something in "our" best interests.

it is time now for the FCBOC to move immediately to settle these lawsuits and get on to the important business at hand.

Greg, Linda and Peter, you may not see it that way (as if any of us thought you would), but your stance was placed on a quasi referndum and the people have spoken. Read the results and follow them. If you do anything else but settle this (and by the way, quit sending letters to Washington D.C.) it will prove that you were only looking for absolute power.

To all of you citizens, please keep a watchful eye on this board for the next 120 days or so. It is not unbelievable to me that they will attempt to fund the Marshall's Office and change the name to Police Department as a last act of defiance. We do not need this now (or ever)!

The citizens have spoken loudly.

P.S.
Remember that there is still a general election on the ballot for November in the race that was decided tonight. Our work is not over.

While less than ten percent of the voters exercised their franchise we are compelled to remember that is a very small number of people who actually do the oversight necessary for effective government.

I applaud the citizens who attend council meetings and report on their experiences to their neighbors. Whether the report is a rant or a rave is immaterial; whether the report is delivered over the back fence, by letter, or blog does not matter.

What is important is that our elected officials know that they are being watched and their actions are being recorded. I certainly hope that the lame-duck commissioners do not attempt petty actions in reprisal over the actions of the electorate.

Ole sarge. I agree completely.

Hey, I like the results of the election, but nine percent of the registered voters doesn't add up to a mandate.

In reality, we've proven that the mandate amounts to apathy. Let us hope and pray that the two new amigos on the commission serve us well. We have a lot to lose if they don't.

First of all, the turnout was probably more than 9% since you are not counting the few democrat ballots that were cast. Although they did not have an outcome in this race, if you are going to criticize me, then get the facts straight.

Secondly, it is most certainly a mandate. It is really a sad state of affairs in our community that such a low number of people can effect the policies , but that having been said, it is the sad position we are in. There is in fact a large number of apathetic registered voters (and unregistered for that matter) in this area, but those who are active and participate had their voices heard on Tuesday. Those are the people that we really want voting anyway. I do not want the ignorant voting who don't even know or study the issues. You know, the "I'll vote for her because she is a woman" or "I'll vote for him because he is in a wheelchair".

Those who have spoken have done so resoundingly. The word is for the shenanigans to stop at the FCBOC and for that governing board to get on with some issues that really matter.

For instance:
1. Traffic
2. Continue managed growth
3. Spend as little of our money as is possible.
4. Return what you do not spend.

And many others.

I will disagree with you about the mandate. Let's see how the three amigos behave in the next 120 days or so.

P.S. The best I can tell is that it is total somwhere between 12% and 13% (which by the way is abominable). I have voted each and every time the polls were open sice I turned 18. I am a little ashamed to say that I did vote for Paul Tsongas in 1992. He would have been better than Clinton. My only foray into the other side of the aisle.

I think that Dalmation195 and I are on the same page. We're just using different terminology. I also agree on the priority issues: traffic, managed growth, reduction of budget excesses.

I wasn't going to go online tonight but had to ask--- surely you made a mistake....Isn't crime number one ? And if you left out schools because you don't have kids that's ok, frankly, because we should vote our own interests.

But don't think crime is up there ?

I absolutely agree with you on crime being a priority. However, I really believe that managing growth has a profound impact on crime and schools.

We are not heavily populated and that helps both crime levels and our schools. Look at the places with the most dense populations in Metro Atlanta and you'll see high crime and crowded schools: Clayton, Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett (year by year).

To me, it all goes hand in hand.

you're dead on. It's time for two of the three amigos to go, and the new board to start to act in the best interest of the citizens of Fayette County. By the way, time for the sixth commissioner to go, too!

Dunn is done, Wells is well done!!

Goodnight!

We don't need any revenge votes.
