The Kind of Tyrone News the Tabloids Fear to Print

Tyrone was finally able to squeeze some cash out of the county commission for recreation. The $18,000 approved by the county commission some time ago was supposed to be a Tyrone vote-getter for Greg Dunn and Linda Wells.

Unfortunately for Dunn, the citizens of the small town told Dunn they’d “take the check but don’t let the door hit you in the butt on the way out.” Dunn later told some bystanders that he was disappointed and he thought he could get more gratitude with just $20 on the Metropolitan Parkway.

The question now is how does the town council spend the money? Mayor Sheryl Lee suggested that an eight foot statue of John Wieland be erected in Shamrock Park, yes that would teach those little whining citizens!

The town council is also looking at an annexation of 16.7 acres off Trickum Creek Road. This council never met an annexation they didn’t like. Councilmen Letourneau and Smola liked the idea because it will give them a reason to place another traffic signal on Highway 74. Smola quipped, “The town’s founders originally wanted the town to be the size of Ireland and he was just helping their vision become reality.”

Greg Dunn is opposing the annexation saying, “Since they voted me out, I have no reason to be nice to them anymore." Linda Wells remarked she may oppose the annexation because she dislikes little people, and the citizens of Tyrone are little people.

The county commission has appealed to U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland to find a way to overturn the proposed annexation. Westmoreland was busy doing nothing and would not return our calls.

I like the idea of a John Wieland statue, but shouldn't it be placed in Triangle Park rather than Shamrock Park? A Wieland statue on a formerly wooded, small lot that has been scraped over with a bulldozer? Just seems more appropriate to me, and that's what Mayor Lee voted for anyway.

Can you be certain Lynn wasn't being a Do Nothinger. I could have sworn that was Lynn on Stewart Avenue shaking the money tree for $20 dollar bills.
