Smooth sailing

Motorists who travel the western leg of Ga. Highway 54 between Peachtree City and Coweta County experiences less traffic congestion Thursday morning.

That’s when the Georgia Department of Transportation opened up all lanes on both sides of the highway from the main intersection in Peachtree City all the way into Newnan on Ga. Highway 34.

Some lane closures will still be necessary to finish work on the project, but “every effort” will be made for crews to be “out of the way” during peak traffic times from 7-9 a.m. and from 4-6 p.m., said DOT district spokesperson Barry Hancock.

The lanes will be open during those time periods, but at other times lane closures will be in place at random locations to complete the project, Hancock said.

Two large jobs left on the checklist include the replacement of a large overhead sign mast on the Fayette section, which is the responsibility of the DOT, and installation of a cart path bridge overpass across the CSX railroad tracks, Hancock said. The latter is expected to require considerable lane closures at some point, but the bridge construction is the city’s responsibility.

The project was due to be complete by the end of the month, but the early opening of lanes during commuting times will doubtless be a sight for sore eyes for those driving between Fayette and Coweta counties. The road was due to open by the end of the month but work on the small details will continue into August, Hancock said.

Get ready to see an increase in property values on the West Side. Traffic, even in rush hour, is clear. This worked!

The Westside, along with Kedron Village, will be the shining examples.

Little early to judge don't you think? Do you live there?

And that would leave me to believe that will help everything in the area. I don't live there, but I do go there, and through there.
