Smola and Lee; At it Again! For those of you living in Tyrone, you must voice your opposing views to those elected officials not complying with the citizen’s requests. This week’s council meeting was just another example that 3 of the 5 don’t care as they have their own agenda. The first issue to address is Triangle Park. Development of this site is supposedly being donated to Tyrone by local developers at the direction of Councilman Smola (or appears to be). The first is issue is that Smola granted permission to begin the project. When did Smola become mayor of this town? I have been attending council meetings for several years and have never once heard a statement from the Mayor Lee to begin work. A decent mayor would manage the project and ensure its completion. It appears that Smola controls this project. The other issue is that the “donated” work is ignoring Shamrock Park. Why would you create a second park only 500 +/- feet from Shamrock Park? Smola has an agenda and it is time to start voicing concerns about his disregard for Tyrone citizens. Another issue with Smola's actions is that he stated that sewer service to the downtown area is more important than solving an ongoing issue at Millbrook. There have been issues with the pump station in this subdivision and are still being ignored. His recommendation was to ask the City of Fairburn an additional 25k gallons of sewer capacity. Not only did he oppose the subdivision tying on, he wanted to ask Fairburn for more capacity to serve Millbrook. Both situations oppose the will of the people and point out his failure to serve this community. Tyrone tax payers can not afford to pay for additional sewer capacity so it will not be a solution. Smola needs to put aside his agenda and serve this community by solving the problem in Millbrook. There are no more reasons to ignore this issue because the developer asked to tie on to the Tyrone’s sewer system. To add to the drama, Mayor Lee decided to create her own focus group by appointing 18 people from various walks of life. The issue here is that you already have two groups that are available to serve. The Neighborhood Alliance was created by the citizens and for the citizens and has made tremendous strides in bringing issues to the forefront. The Focus Group was created by the council to serve the council. I will say that they only item they have provided is a report on where they think the library should go. This isn’t an accomplishment because the citizens have already voiced their opinion. Would a third group help? If the mayor is in charge, it will definitely not help. Review her track record and ask yourself is she has accomplished anything positive for this community. Tyrone citizens must begin speaking out against elected officials who continually oppose the will of the people. The “vocal minority” must begin holding those officials accountable!
