By-Pass Question

PTC Guy's picture

Why doesn't the city want to extend MacDuff, both ways, to create a by-pass?

Why isn't PTC requiring the shopping development to put in a second entrance going to 74?

I agree, we need something for the folks in South PTC/Brooks and Coweta Counties to be able to avoid our main inner city intersections.

As far as the new Kedron Development, I believe there are only commercial developments between Georgian/74/Peachtree Pkwy. It seems like the current signal at Georgia MAY be enough, notice I say MAY. I think a signal will be needed at the other end of Georgian though. Another signal on 74 would just give the commuters that much more to argue about.

Whatever is best will take some investigation.

But pipe dreaming the current construction is going to fix it all is only a pipe dream.

That is the major intersection for this whole geographical area. People are forced into a funnel called the 54/74 intersection for going east and west and getting into the shopping area.

That has to be changed.

Rockaway Road, Hwy 54 and Cannongate Road are the only 3 places to cross in that entire stretch. The development of Coweta has put quite a strain on 74 for sure, not to mention our own here in PTC. Other alternatives need to be looked at for sure.

What happened to the TDK extension (OK it's not north / south, but should certainly help the 54 / 74 situation)? Thought it was put back on the agenda several months ago, but haven't heard anything more about it. Is this administration fighting it also? If the Cannongate group is holding it up doesn't eminant domain apply to golf course property too? Sixteen holes would be a nice break now that the hot weather is coming back.

Since it seems you're so hell-bent on creating the next Riverdale with proposals of adding more space-destroying roads (which will, in turn, invite more development and gridlock along those new roads), nevermind the astronomical price and the need to condemn, via eminent domain, currently owned private property, why don't you just move to Riverdale or Fairburn now? It's not like traffic patterns south of 54 has been a secret or has just recently developed. Adding more roads, taking people's property and bringing in more development isn't an answer.

You have to admit that even though the commercial buildings are too large, too dense and create akmost impossible traffic problems (like Riverdale) they are pretty to look at. Brown and Rast, the planning commission and others have focused on architecture and it shows. Best Buy is a joy to look at while you are sitting in traffic as is the strip center west of there - not sure which is front or rear, but doesn't matter - it looks good.

Keep up the good work fellas. Cram some more good-looking buildings in there. By the way, when is the bridge to nowhere going to be built? I'm sure that too will be an architectural masterpiece - hanging in the air with no place to put it down on the south side of 54.

You are right Hammy....Watch for the next project---- the TDK extension will bring in more another Summergrove and the the whole strip will look like Bullsboro in Newnan, the strip of mess, lights, and messy traffic. We might as well call it Bullsboro East or Bobby Boulevard. But it should make a lot folks in PTC feel at home: "Summergrove---- a southern touch of Jersey."

The developements are coming anyway. Get over it.

We are getting Riverdales the way things are now.

There is vacant land on the north and south side of MacDuff. Use it before it gets developed. Instead of buildings let it be roads to bleed off traffic.

Me move? No. Why don't you move to some empty county down south and be happy no developments or roads are being built anywhere near you. And no ones property will get taken or bought.

Are you foolish enough to believe 74 or 54 or any county roads were built with some land taking?

Wake up.

Dear Sons of Bellyachen:

I do suppose that is what SOB means in your oppressed community. Anyway, since you seem to do a good job of critiquing my ramblin’, and your exprties also seems to extend to squirrel talk, I thought you might like to know about our old Irish priest who came to us from the old sod, therough France, next a short stay at Notre Dame Universithy (he even had talks with G. K Chesterton when G. K. came to ND), and then to me parish, St. Mary’s.

This peasant of a man (he only spoke four languages, plus he could read Latin and Greek and Hebrew, and was not even too bad with English) did not care for the Jesuits (a long story) and could be counted on goading a new one of them into being a butt of his joke.

He would say, “You know you can always tell one of those Jesuit joints by the statue out front. There will be this cleric all draped in a heavy robe, with a hood hanging down and a rope synched around his waste, and a little squirrel sitting upright at the statue’s feet.”

If the Jesuit made the mistake of suggesting that the abbey might have been that of the Franciscans, and the statue cleric that of St. Francis of Assisi, Father Gaul would say, “Sure but the squirrel is the Jesuit.”
