Rail Road Question

PTC Guy's picture

Probably missed it some where. Been kind of busy.

But what are they putting in alongside the rail road track by 74?

The city staff has asked Wieland to ask CSX whether or not they will park trains across MacDuff Parkway. Government entities can specify time constraints on the railroad for limiting how long they can block any intersection.

This has been done in Hapeville and should the train block it for longer than allowed, the railroad can be fined.

As one of the affected individuals, I have no problem with this parking side. The odds of the railroad blocking the intersection for any significant time is less likely than me being tied up on Hwy 54.

There is not a soul alive here in PTC who doesn't know that a bridge must be built over the RR tracks instead of a "crossing." It is a matter of demanding the developer to build it, or, pay for it with our taxes, soon. "Soon" being defined by just how many are killed there at the crossing, how quickly. Once the new homes are built on that road there will be no other way to go North in any reasonable time without going through Lenox junction. Another marvelous developer job allowed to be half done.

Hi, Dana.

Agree on the blocking. And am very familiar with the Hapeville issues.

I wonder how many people realize how noisy a side rail used for car storage and switching is?

Will prove interesting if it is!

You don't happen to be employed by Hapeville do you? Yes, the parking can be noisy on starts and stops, but hopefully there will be little use of it.

The problem in dealing with the railroad is you are dealing with an entity that is as tough to deal with as the Federal government.

Once the crossing goes in and the city applies for that section to be designated a quiet zone, I'll be curious as to how that will affect the railroads use of the side rail.

That would be a railroad siding. This means the extension of McDuff Parkway will now pass over 2 railroad tracks instead of "just" one track.

Harold! Make them build a bridge. That surface crossing is an accident waiting to happen. You can't say ypu wern't warned.

That is what I guessed.

Hmmm, for passing or for transfers and storage? If for transfers and storage it is going to get much noisier than just for passing. And tie up grade level crossings.

Does not affect where I live either way.

Thanks for the info.

Dude, a quote like this ---"Does not affect where I live either way"

Please grow up.

Sorry, guy. It will not affect me or a lot of others.

Just will make it a lot noisier for those who are already affected by the noise.

My shop is right by the tracks in the Hapeville area. NOISY. Especially when switching.

But the same distance away that one is bothered by regular through trains is the same distance of the extra bother.
