Athenas Pizza in PTC

Fyt35's picture

Have you fellow bloggers tried this place out yet? It opened next to Jersey Mikes. I must say I gave it a try about two weeks ago and was extremely disappointed. I ordered their version of Greek pizza, after what appeared as an unreasonably long wait, the pizza came out. The lamb meat was burnt, I called the manager on it and his response was that “people like their meat crispy”. What planet did he come from? Crispy gyro meat? It was like eating leather.

Needleless to say, no one beat Nicks when its all about gyro’s; as far as gyro pizza, I will only eat them from, Christos’ off of Delk Rd in Marietta.
No Athena’s return trip for me!

I think the place is more like Woody Harrelson than Penelope Cruz.

Your meal comes out on a plastic disposable plate with a plastic knife and fork. A couple of the meals were microware dinner quality.

A lot of people wouldn't mind eating with Woody Harrelson.

Christo's is my Wife's favorite restaurant. She was extremely excited when it opened and we have had 3 great experiences. You should try the Gyro. It think Athena's is better than Christo's but my wife disagrees.

Now that I think about it, you may prefer Christo's because they cut their Gyro meat a little thicker than other Greek restaurants that I have been to. The reason I like Athena's better is because their meat is thinner and not as greasy as Christo's.

the cuts are thicker at Christo's. I work 5 mins from there; easy to pick up and bring home. I'm definitely giving Athenas another try soon.

I suggest you buy some hermetically sealed rice and bottled water!
Store it!
Even enormous congressional actions can't resolve our current problems in a reasonable time.

We completely lost the ability to calculate accounting and finance, and also clipped the wings of the auditors and warners.

I expect these fancy food joints will start disappearing soon.
What we need is a good $3 lunch and a five cent cigar! Maybe a 5 cent 6 ounce Coke. (what it is really worth.)

OK, let's hear your chant of positivity!

No, the place was "Slobjohns Eats!" You know the feller you hear choppin and choppin in the back when you order some hog! Too bad they ruin good meat in that fashion! Weren't for the sauce, one couldn't eat it atall!
The old boy makes a fortune selling his recipe for sauce to ever redneck what comes in there.

go to Dean's in Jonesboro--he only uses Hams.

Is it the ham left on the bone that is slung off with a metal spiral rotator after all the good stuff is gone? Like they make souse and Treet from?

Submitted by AtHomeGym on Sun, 12/27/2009 - 2:52pm.

No Bonko, he makes BBQ and does not use Butt/Shoulder, only Hams. And he cuts/chops everything by hand, no machine.

Are you the person who likes the sauce that Muddle picks up by the case? Home canned, I understand on the same day as the hogs are slaughtered!

I'm going to say this just one more time. BBQ is beef, preferably brisket, with little or no sauce. Pig and yard bird just doesn't cut it even when sauced up. Smiling

we were there about two weeks ago for the first time. Ate outside under the heaters. Wife had pizza I had salad. We thought it was good. Service was good also. We put it on our regular list to return, even plan to bring one of our dinner groups there.

Is eating outside under the heaters---the sun?

I too also have a "list" but I don't call it "my regular list!"
After eating them cold cuts one of your dinner groups, or all of the groups, may never go back!

Where can I buy a blank "regular list?"
Wouldn't they call you when they had your specials?
Can one buy a one-year contract to eat there cheaper than every day just paying? You know like UGA does for the students?

Maybe you just didn't order the right thing. The Feta Burger is to die for and the white pizza is the absolute best pie in town. Be warned, the white pizza is really rich so split with someone and cleanse your pallet with a crispy salad. Nice folks and good location, might be worth another shot.

I ate there last weekend and the gyro platter was outstanding! My wait person was very young (first job maybe?) and failed to bring my silverware when the food was brought out. But she apologized and was johnny on the spot the rest of my time there. Will definitely be back! We need to support local establishments like Athenas, Cafe Pig and Maxwell's who have a tough time competing against chains like Carrabba's, Long Horn, Smokey Bones, etc.
