The Christmas Spirit

hutch866's picture

I come yet again with my hat in hand, asking for your help. Back in the fall I asked my friends here on the C to send birthday cards to a very sick little girl, Taylor Hulsey. The campaign for cards was a great success and she received around 500 cards and had many days of joy opening her cards. I'm asking now that when you send out your Christmas cards, send one to this little girl and make her and her mother's day. This is one very brave child and to meet her is to love her. Her story is below and again I ask you to please send a card to Taylor.

For those of you who do not know of Taylor, she is the daughter of Vicki Perrusse Hulsey, a classmate of ours. Taylor was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Multiforme two years ago, and has become a little miracle at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta by outliving all doctors expectations. Vicki quit work to care for Taylor. For her Birthday this year we sponsored a Birthday Card Campaign for Taylor, and she received over 500 cards. It was a great source of joy to Taylor to open each card. I want to thank all who participated.

Now we are asking you to send Taylor a Christmas Card. Opening mail is one of Taylor's greatest joys, as she has very little mobility.

Taylor has been sponsored by the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children and her sponsorship will end at the end of this year. They have been so wonderful to help her each month with her diapers and gas cards.

For those of you who would like to help, Taylor and Vicki have a need for gas cards from the BP station and Depend Adjustable underwear size S/M, which are easily purchased for mailing on-line at Amazon and other on-line outlets.

Mostly Taylor needs your prayers.

Please feel free to copy this email and mail it to a friend who would like to help.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.
Lois and Angie

A couple of people have asked me how many cards Taylor received for Christmas, at last count it was over 600 cards and they were still coming in. Thanks to all you good people who took the time out your busy lives to give a bit of joy to a little girl. It's important to her mother also, who when she feels overwhelmed with the responsibility's thrust upon her can reflect on all the people pulling and praying for her child. It makes a difference in her life, and y'all are part of that difference. Cheers, as brother Hack would say.

I think you said it is in February they have a big anniversary to celebrate. The good news that the tumor is shrinking just adds to this anniversary.

Thanks for keeping us updated Hutch.

Hutch, ironically I sent Taylor a Christmas Card that I had made of a picture of my black and white Cocker. I told Taylor about painting Danny Boy's portrait the first time he saw snow. I hope she likes dogs because I told her that if she would like for me to, I will send her new stories about Danny Boy each week. Thanks, again, for helping Taylor and her Mom. You are the best. Hutch, thank you so very much for sending this along. I have 6 grandchildren who are a blessing to me each day. Four of my six are able to write and would be greatly honored to write to Taylor. I will have a card in the mail to her first thing tomorrow morning and will pass this along to everyone I know. Merry Christmas and blessings to you and your family.

You've always had a big heart, and this just reinforces that fact. I still remember the little puppies found in February.

I picked up a card last night that plays music when you open it (Have a holly, jolly Christmas). I think she'll like that.

My daughter is 12 and would like to pen-pal with Taylor. Thank you for telling us her age. Rachel will get to writing her first letter this week.

Thank all of you wonderful people, this is exactly the response I expected, because the people on the "C" have big hearts. Taylor had another Chemo treatment today, and it usually is hard on her as you can expect. Haven't heard yet how she is doing but will update as soon as I hear. You people are the best.

My friends, here is an update on little Taylor that I received this morning. I want to thank everyone who sent Taylor a card, she is a special little girl.

Good Monday Morning & Happy New Year!!
We are experiencing a miracle as I type! Taylor's most recent MRI showed a significant amount of shrinkage of her tumor. It was previously compared to the size of a golf ball, then to a walnut and now to an olive! AMAZING! The current CHEMO infusion treatments, PRAYER, and LOVE are all contributing factors in this medical miracle! Taylor has been on chemo for a very long time and it is extremely hard on her little body but the fear is that if she takes a chemo break the tumor will grow and spread, so for now she will continue with the treatments.
I come to you this morning asking for a small favor! Taylor was diagnosed nearly 3 years ago, which is a miracle in itself. (80% of people diagnosed with this type of cancer do not live beyond 2 years.) Taylor will be CELEBRATING her 3rd 'BIRTHDAY' of her cancer journey on Monday, February 22, 2010! Please mark your calendars for this very important day and remember to lift Taylor, her family, the medical staff at CHOA and all of her caring friends up in your thoughts and prayers...If you would like to send a greeting or a card that would be wonderful..she loves receiving mail!!

This is the closest thing to a "Christmas Miracle" I have seen in a long time. Keep the good news coming.
Feb. 22 ?

What are some of the things Taylor likes? Does she like horses, dogs, cats? Does she like makeup and dressing up? Help us out, what does she like besides cards.

She has inspired so many people with her courage, what can we do besides pray and send cards?
