sweet smell in PTC

There is some plant that grows along Robinson Rd (between the Parkway and Redwine) that has the most wonderful fragrance. It's like jasmine or gardenia, something really sweet. I can't see any blooms as I'm driving. Does anyone know what it is? I've got to get some and plant it near my bedroom window.

NUK_1, I think that snake has crawled back into his hole never to be seen again.

The plant you are talking about is most likely Eleagnus (latin name), commonly known as "Silverthorn". It is also affecionately known as "Ugly Agnes". It is currently blooming and does smell similar to Gardenias. The bloom is fairly small and cream colored and hard to see from a car as you drive by. Despite the nickname, it is an attractive shrub, but it does grow to be huge unless you constantly prune it. It can get to be 15 feet high and 20 feet in diameter if left unpruned. You may not want to have such a beast under your window unless you just love pruning bushes. A better location would be on the back of your property if you have the space. It makes a great screen, which is why you see it planted along the road in front of Peeple's Elementary and along the r.r. tracks on 74 north. But if you plant it in the wrong place, it might drive you crazy from all of the pruning, and it does grow fast in Georgia. Here's a link for more info: http://www.floridata.com/ref/E/elaeag_p.cfm (you'll have to cut and paste - I don't know how to do a hyperlink). Hope this helps.

Forty-six Mary Jane plants were discovered near that area. When they burned them.....well!

Bonkers has been seen driving up and down Robinson Road in the area where the forty-six Mary Jane plants were discovered. Can this be the explanation we have been searching for? Is there where the many manifestations take place? Was that his personal stash? Is there a cloud of that heavenly hash over his head like a halo as he sits and blogs? Do all the others come out and they sit at the Round Table and spout their views or do they fight to come to the surface one by one and then go back until the next foray? Can this be the link we have been searching for??

It does smell nice but it grows like a vine. Dont plant it. It will take over your trees like a nasty vine and it is a nightmare to trim it down.

Master Gardener material, if not already.

I know what the plant looks like but I don't know the name. There is a bunch of it growing close to several of the cart paths...it is a bush with shiny green leaves and tiny white, bell-shaped flowers...maybe Jasmine or Honeysuckle?

Take a walk close to where you smell it and break off a clump and take it to Pikes Nursery...they'll know what it is. Let us know if you find out!
