Lobbyist have been on Advisory boards and commissions!Yes, read it and weep.No wonder so many insurance laws etc are slanted toward the big bucks instead of the consummers! Talk about the fox in the hen house! I'm appalled this has been going on! Someone is now trying to curb the power of the lobbyist. "The White House Special Counsel on Ethics and Government Reform, Norm Eisen, issued a statement via the White House blog on Sept. 23 that the administration is strongly discouraging the appointment of federally registered lobbyists to agency advisory boards and commissions. Roll Call reported that the rule was being considered on Sept. 21. Mr. Eisen conveyed that although executive branch agencies are not required to comply with this guidance, it is within the "spirit" of the Executive Order on Ethics and should therefore be given strong consideration. As mentioned by Mr. Eisen, this is part of a continuing effort by the Administration to limit what is seen as undue influence on the federal government. Other recent executive branch actions to apply to lobbyists include rules posted on communicating with executive branch officials on Recovery Act and TARP funds. Lobbyists say that the White House's decision to ban them from advisory boards will likely cause many of them to de-register. Although the administration has been able to issue waivers to the Executive Order on Ethics for some officials, it is unclear whether they would do so in this new area. Issue Code Update For LD-1 & LD-2 Filing On September 22, the House Office of the Clerk reported the creation of a new issue code for lobbyists filing LD-1 & LD-2 forms under the Lobbying Disclosure Act. The code "TAR" should be used to indicate lobbying on miscellaneous tariff bills, in effect immediately. "TAR" is the shortened version of "TAR-Tariff (Miscellaneous Tariff Bills)." The Clerk's Office reported that lobbyists working on other trade issues (non-tariff) should continue to use the "TRD" designation on their filings."
