To continually argue over the number of participants and possible racist participants is not a wise use of time - one should be spending their time contacting their legislator with their concerns regarding the healthcare bill. You're being used!! A bill is forthcoming - will your concerns be addressed? Lots of deals are being made. Will your legislator do whats best for you - or what's best for his/her election prospects? Of course in this state - the legislators have their marching orders - DON'T SUPPORT OBAMA. Will that action make the 'south' a winner? What will 'spending cuts' do for the farmer in Georgia? How will health care improve in Georgia? Just asking.

The latest version of "healthcare reform" is the Baucus bill in the Senate. So far, the most moderate of Repubs-Olympia Snow-says NO, but so do most progressive liberals like Jay Rockefeller and the most important detractor, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. The opposition is hardly limited to Repubs or even "conservatives" and that bill is DOA. Progressives hate it, conservatives hate it, moderates aren't wild about it. Howard Dean called it the "worst piece of legislation in history"

It appears to me the legislators are indeed listening because there are parts that appeal to one base or the other, but the sum of these parts isn't good enough to garner widespread support. An artificially-imposed time frame(got to do this in an off election year or the voters throw us out) for passage has killed any meaningful chance of health care reform.

WH is trying to convince a lot of Dems that passing health care reform will improve their chances of re-election in 2010. Repubs are betting the exact opposite. Repubs have history on their side of the argument and aren't going to budge. It's only a matter of how many Dems will defect and side with the Repubs as to whether even the smallest of "reforms" passes. Or, everyone takes a breath, shows some patience,and goes back to work on something significant for next year....oh wait, that's 2010, an election year, and that means the Dems won't want to be anywhere near this issue then.
