Teen Center

I asked my 17 y/o daughter to explain the difference between a teen center and the dog park? She said she takes the dog to the park.

I just read about Tyrone's battles to avoid a Teen Center. also. It seems that if anyone mentions such a thing, people turn pale, cough, and start circling the wagons. Teenagers? UGH. Who wants them? Such a responsibility for the politicians. A place for adults to buy a drink--you bet; a new police station--of course; a new library--wonderful; new court houses--crooks must have a beautiful place for a trial (not to mention employees, who are NOT teenagers); a dozen more banks---well, of course--very critical.
If we do happen to provide a place for them, we use a pile of old junk, small and dank, that we already have--it will soon close if we hound them enough, and provide no leadership. Why don't our most vulnerable children (except for the 17 and 18 and 19 years olds in Iraq)deserve a building just as good as a jail or a courthouse? They do, and a safe one. It cost money but would help these two working parents families to keep them out of jail.

You are exactly right on everything you have stated. The truth is with support from citizens like you we are on the way in getting a youth center. I strongly urge you and anyone else either for or against a youth center to come to the next Youth Council meeting

Tuesday March 7th at
6:30 McIntosh High
School Cafeteria!!!

where they will be discussing such issues. We have begun to take steps in the right direction, we have the support of a couple of key politicians (I will let them display their support when they are ready). But it looks to me that if we keep our fingers crossed and head keep "trucking" we may end up getting a NEW youth center in the future.

The council members see that there is a problem and recognize what a youth center could do for the community and for that I thank them.

Thank you for your comments, and I urge anyone with any ideas to email me at shelbybarker@gmail.com

Thanks,

Hey if the dogs and seniors can have their own place why can't the teens?
