Envelopes Sent Home by FCBOE

On Tuesday my son came home with an envelope from the FCBOE that was addressed to me and they wanted me to check it and make sure that the address was correct. It went on to say that due to the Financial difficulties that FCBOE is facing we were to put postage on the envelope and send it back to school. It stated that if you didn't affix postage that your child would not receive their report card for the end of the year and that you would have to go to the welcome center to pick it up. Now don't get me wrong, my problem is not the 44 cents, it is them asking for postage due to their gross mismanagement of funds that we as Tax Paying Citizens provide them with. In the last 5 years my property taxes have increased by $500.00 and it was due to increases put forth by the FCBOE.
The real kicker to this is that if your child had not brought this in by Wednesday they received silent lunch as a punishment. Is anyone else as mad about this as I am?

Why do they have to be mailed? If a parent chooses not to send a stamp just send the report card home with the kid. If a parent doesn't send a stamp a thier kid "loses" the report card, well then thats the parents problem.

They have to be mailed because the FCBOE has decided that to keep kids in school the last couple of days they have Finals, therefore they don't have the grades ready. I sent my sons envelope back the next day with .50 enclosed as at that time I didn't have any stamps in the house,I added the extra .6 to help out. But low and behold they would not accept CASH, it had to be a stamp. This is just way past ridiculous, now mind you they didn't send the envelopes home with the high school kids. Just like in the movie "O Brother were out thou" we need to Run These People Out On A RAIL! It is time to take OUR Board of Education Back!

Remember, we had a chance to change the makeup last election cycle and we the people chose not to do that! Next cycle, once more, I'll vote for a change but we all have to join together to make that happen.

how right you are. How quickly they forget. The people of Fayette county will sit there and keep the 3 developer friendly on the BOE and do nothing but whine about what they do.

Just for fun you should send your son in with a bunch of stamps and note about how you want to do all you can to help out the FCBOE in these troubled times.

Let me understand: Your child brought the envelope from school but can't just take it back--did I get that correct? How silly.

The 3 Amigos on the BOE have foolishly frittered away millions for unnecessary schools in the middle of developer own cow pastures.

If a silent lunch is a penance for the cost of a stamp, Smola should never be allowed to speak another word in Fayette county for the rest of her life!

I thought the $PLO$T money was supposed to save us all. Let's recap: Bigger class sizes for the upcoming year...less teachers in the classroom next...parapros laid off...Smola's son keeps his job even though he is not tenured and doesn't have his certificate...we all had our taxes raised..we can't open Rivers Elementary and now we don't have money for stamps...oh this is just the highlight reel people. When are you going to demand better for your children, our educators and this county?

Doesn't that solve this problem? I check my kids' middle school and high school grades there. It has their final grades. I agree that it's a little unreasonable to do the silent lunch if you haven't brought in a stamp. I'm assuming this is elementary school? They're supposed to contact you by phone if your student's failing, but other than that, why not have parents pick up the report card or send in the stamp.

Incidentally, the stamped envelope is not a new thing - most schools do ask parents to do that so that it has your most current address on it, and by now schools are at the end of their postage and copy paper allotment. The stamp is usually no big deal here, and if I don't have the stamp, I'll just pick up the report card. I'm a little surprised by the silent lunch though.
