Liberty University spurns Democratic club

It's a wonder ole Jerry Jr. doesn't just spontaneously burst into flames over the sheer indignation of people disagreeing with him.

Maybe he should consider changing the name from Liberty U to Taliban U.

This is the beauty of private universities. They don't have to allow the neo-marxists to spout their propoganda if it goes against their teaching.

This is one of the things that make this country great. You don't have to associate with groups if you don't want to. This is why there are schools like Liberty. Kids can come there and learn and not be concerned with their professors trying to spout their neo-marxist, hate-filled babble during the time that they are supposed to be teaching class.

happy appetite at one end and no responsibility at the
other. -- Ronald Reagan

Don't get me wrong, private University and all, they can teach whatever they like and associate with whomever they want. I've got no problem with it at all. Of course they might have a problem after they get out of school and join the reality based portion of society and realize that they were taught a bunch of crap. But that's their choice, or their mommas and daddies anyway, and that is what makes this a great country. There are lots of jobs where it doesn't matter a whit if you believe in evolution or that Adam and Eve had a triceratops for a pet or that the sun revolves around the Earth. What difference does it make? If that's what they want, I say go for it.

In fact, whatever our formal education we can still learn something new every day. For instance, you never told us you used to live in Kenya. Cool.

Plus, students can attend a "school" like Liberty U and can learn some really cool alternative "science" that states that the earth was truly created in only 7 days and is really less than 10,000 years old. Liberty U even has some required "science" courses that include Creation Studies.

It's no wonder Liberty U kicked out that pesky Democrat Club cuz you know all Dem's have just got to be baby killers and atheists, right?

"On a recent Tuesday, a dozen or so Liberty University students are in the midst of a lecture in one of their required courses, creation studies.....Liberty leans toward young- Earth creationism, DeWitt said, which is a literal interpretation of the Bible that God created the heavens, Earth and all life in seven days, less than 10,000 years ago.....At Liberty, the science classroom is exactly where students learn about creation, and the content also is woven into many other areas of coursework."

It is just so nice to see Fred posting blogs that Main and JeffC can agree with. Keep up the good work Fred.

And just to add a little something from the carbonunit, a bit of Liberty U trivia: the LU logo on the side of the mountain is approximately 400 lineal feet (or 71.7 smoots) in diameter.

It's not easy being the carbonunit

I know a couple of guys who teach philosophy there. It's a safe bet that they are more than embarrassed by such things. Typically, at a place like that, many or most of the faculty (and students) may be perfectly sensible, but you get administrators and trustees who haven't a clue. Boy, do I ever know what that is like from my past experience.

Ah, well. DC (or is it GC?) actually did me a favor. It's sort of like the Joseph story. He says to his bros., "You meant it for evil but God meant it for good."

I'm sure she'd do better against you if she could. Fanatics, no matter what faith, are to be avoided.

I wondered when it would happen that a right-wing university would take up the practice of banning or persecuting groups it doesn't agree with as we see happening regularly on left-wing controlled universities across this country. The excuse could be me made by Liberty that: "But, but, but... they do it". That wouldn't make it right though would it?

Sooooo... even though Liberty's actions may be ridiculous they are very much the norm viewing the precedents set by opposing ideologies. Not sure I like Liberty's can't beat 'em join 'em mindset.

Hmmmm...very interesting. I have a relative (elementary school teacher) who graduated from Liberty a couple of weeks ago, got his Masters Degree.
