How will bailout of Chrysler and GM help

Someone please explain to me how giving Chrysler and GM more money could possibly keep them afloat for the long haul. Yes, it will keep them in business for now, but if the consumer doesn't have the funds to purchase new cars the point is moot. Give us taxpayers the money and we will stimulate the economy, and we will determine which companies are worthy of survival based on their product and service to us as consumers, not for political posturing

Than throwing money at the financiail institutions! American car manufacturers are in trouble due to the fact that they make an inferior, redundant and undesireable product. No infusion of taxpayer money is going to change this. If one or more of them goes belly up, it's not like people will suddenly stop driving cars. Another more capable and style-savvy producer will take its place. This is the free market and this is what we're losing faster than we are realizing!

Well son, back before the turn of the century, companies either succeeded or failed in the marketplace through their own actions. That means that when companies that were once industry leaders, companies like the Pennsylvania Railroad, Eastern Airlines and Enron failed to mind the store and ran into financial difficulty, they were forced out of business.

Wow dad, why would the government let companies go out of business?

It was good for the economy son, because then new companies who were hungrier and more innovative would take their place. We still have plenty of railroads, plenty of airlines and more than a few companies like Enron who do nothing at all yet manage to survive. Without allowing companies to fail, we put ourselves in the position of settling for the same old mediocre garbage.

Is that why Ford's bringing the Pinto back? Grandpaw said he used to have one, until it exploded at a stoplight.

That's right, Son. That's exactly right.

At least it got 30 MPG, and unlike the junk they produce today at least the spark plug would stay in the head, and not jettison like on the 5.4 triton, happened twice on my 03 F150, oh yeah i almost forgot though if someone ran into the Pinto from behind you had an instant bar-b-que, guess thats what happens when the leaf springs collapse onto the gas tank crushing it in the process, nyce....PEACE...

Hows Singapore?

Is the weather there better than it was here last night? Sheesh, I told you to bring some rain with you not send it ahead of you with a level 6 thunderstorm and embedded tornados.

Our country at one time was a super-power because of capitialism. Capitalism motivates people to produce quality products. They know if they don't produce quality products people will abandon them. Some companies deserve to fail, through their own incompetence.

Through socialism we are headed for 3rd world status. God forbid we would force companies to produce a quality product via customer pressure. Produce or fail.

I haven't left yet. But Monday's forecast - when I arrive - calls for a high 89 and showers. It's the monsoon season. I'll send you all a shout out. Singapore is 13 hours and a day ahead of Atlanta.

Have a safe trip. I'll be here working away, so all of the parasites and tax cheats can live off of my hard work.
