Veterans

I want to thank each and every one of you for your service. God Bless. Smiling

Sonny Perdue, we now have 81 homeless veterans kicked out of their home. I saw this on the news tonight and it broke my heart. This is a disgrace!

I see your 'Go Fish Georgia' complex is going ahead as planned. No cutbacks there! Shame on you. You are the worst Gov. Georgia has ever had.

My humble opinion.

You are so right! Good thing he has his priorities in order now. He is on the way out -- and I voted for him.

The news is a little slanted. I read somewhere that these veterans will be placed in another facility. But Sonny got his fishing camp, or whatever it is.

Why can't we (Fayette County citizens) do something to help these veterans? We have emergency shelters/homes for children and battered women. Would it be such a burden to help these men? I'm sure there is an empty building/house somewhere that could be converted. This is very sad. What a great way to wish them all a Merry Christmas (that was sarcasm). I don't know how these things work, how they are funded and who pays the final bill...but those of you with children in the public school system know that the schools collect/raise money all of the time for numerous causes (cancer/MS/schools in other countries/needy families/etc), the schools even collected donations to send veterans to Washington. Would people balk at this? Wouldn't it be awesome if Fayette County, as a whole, would come together and do something? We're already a pretty terrific county!

Yes, it would be awesome. The state budgeted $3 million a year for this facility. $3 million is also awesome. Where would it come from? I don't know of any group that could afford this, and the county would not have it in the budget. This would not be a temporary project. It would be a permanent expense.

I agree we have plenty of homes waiting to be sold that maybe could be rented. I think some of those guys need assisted living, like Dogwood. The sad thing is they will probably have to leave not just the facility they were in, but the little town that they were familiar with. It was very sad watching the one guy having to pack up his Christmas decorations.

I can't believe a fishing camp was more important than this. How much longer are we stuck with Sonny?

Sonny is closing a War Veterans Home facility in Milledgeville to save money and he could have easily found another way to trim the state budget without dumping 81 veterans on to the street. Some of those vets have lived at this facility for 10-15 years and have no where to go.

And this is how Sonny honors our veterans? He is despicable.

Despicable? Absolutely!
I contacted Gov. Perdue and told him how I feel about this. I hope everyone else will do the same. I haven't received a reply yet. I'll post his excuse when I do.

His speech about our vets yesterday meant nothing. He should admit this is wrong and fix it! I hope it's not to late, I think some of the veterans have already left. God Bless them.

Main, Susieq, Sky, Wildcat, everyone, please contact Perdue.
