Congratulations And Godspeed To Mr Obama

Mike King's picture

I did not support the man, did not vote for the man, and attempted to sway others to my point of view , but despite all of this he is now the President-Elect of the United States. As such, I ask that all Americans rally to the cause that enables a nation such as ours to select its leadership without fear of reprisal.

The man has accomplished much in the two years campaigning and sees the challenges that lie ahead not only for him, but for all of us. He needs the collective support of all Americans and last night he asked for that support.

Those attending at Grant Park showed not only pride but joy and promise for the future of our land. Something that has not been seen since November, 1960. Let's not waste an opportunity, let's come together, as he said it best: "Yes, we can."

From the other side, he has my support.

He is now the President elect. Congratulations to all Obama supports and may the next 4 years bring wonderful things to our nation.

Now with that said, I see where the GOP is trying to scope out their future and Sarah's name apparently keeps popping up. Now Main, please try to contain yourself. Eye-wink

"...GOP is trying to scope out their future and Sarah's name apparently keeps popping up. Now Main, please try to contain yourself."

It will be interesting to watch the GOP try and redefine itself after this election, however, there seems to be an intense power struggle going on in your party right now, and some of the fighting seems to be over what to do with Palin. Do they cut her loose or do they prep her for a higher office? Personally, I would LUUUUUUV to see the fundie Repub's rally around Sarah "Bible Spice" Palin because it would push the party even further to the right and away from the center. We are witnessing a splintering of the GOP and the subsequent swing to a center-left populace and government. I read a great quote yesterday on a blog, regarding what the Bush legacy may end up being:

"Looking back, one of the most important Bush legacies is that he radicalized a new generation of progressives."

Back to Palin, I saw that even Fox News seems to be cannibalizing her, most recently in this exchange between O'Reilly and Carl Cameron, revealing the "back-biting" and finger-pointing that is currently taking place between Palin and the McCain campaign staff. This kind of stuff is being leaked now:

* Palin lacked knowledge of basic civics and government responsibility which made staffers very uncomfortable.

* She didn't know which countries were in NAFTA (Mexico, Canada, U.S.)

* There was great concern within the McCain campaign that Palin lacked "a degree of knowledgeability necessary to be a running mate, a vice president, a heartbeat away from the presidency."

* She "didn't understand that Africa was a continent, rather than a series, a country just in itself."

* Palin was apparently a nightmare for her campaign staff to deal with. She refused preparation help for her interview with Katie Couric and then blamed her staff, specifically Nicole Wallace, when the interview was panned as a disaster.

* After the Couric interview, Fox News reported, Palin turned nasty with her staff and began to accuse them of mishandling her.

* Palin would view press clippings of herself in the morning and throw "tantrums" over the negative coverage. There were times when she would be so nasty and angry that her staff was reduced to tears.

* Palin was a shopaholic buying even more clothes and accessories for herself and her family, AFTER the $150K was spent on her wardrobe.

We have a lot of work to do and a spirit of cooperation and encouragement can only help. The election of Barack Obama will be a good thing for all of us if we accept the passing of bitterness and divisiveness and welcome the power of acceptance and goodwill.

I have little confidence that either of you will finsd very much that Obama does that you will cooperate with or back!
You speak now on the first day as someone who yet doesn't have a gripe!
You will have many and all soon!

We are tired of Snide comments towards us conservatives. The Libs won...The most Liberal Politician in America is now PEOTUS.

Yes I'm sure many of us will find things he does that we don't like, and we will speak out about those things. That's what we as Americans have been granted the right to do by the Contstitution of the United States of America.

You ask me to show you a post critical of Bush, Palin, Or Chambliss. I can't do it.

But in the same respect, can you show me something Barack Obama has done that would make me believe he isn't going to lead with a leftist agenda? All you Libs say "oh he isn't that leftist"...well his record says otherwise.

I did not vote for the man either, but as you said "From the other side, he has my support."

Isn't this kind of weak support something like Hitler told Chamberlain-- Yes, Herr P.M., you may say we will have peace forever. (just in England for the time being, however.)

George Bush has a nice farm in Texas!
