Mike King: Gays In The MilitaryToday our Secretary Of Defense sets out to explain just how he is to go about and terminate the current 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy prevalent in today's military. Americans now will line up on both sides of the issue and 'experts' will abound as talking heads extolling their points of view. Mike King: Spending Cuts, Now Really....I wondered just how long and how desperate our political leaders would have to be to use the term 'spending cuts'. I guess it took a truck driving former male model declaring that the seat he was seeking actually belonged to the people of his state and not to any one individual or political party. Mike King: Beltway MindsetI came across this article this am on a conservative website written by Beverly Gunn who quite clearly depicts the 'mindset' of those entrenched in our nation's capital. She may well be a career military family member or perhaps a federal employee, but without doubt a Washington outsider. Mike King: Mr. Obama, A Few Suggestions If I Might Be So BoldRealizing that you have at least another thirty-seven months of job security, would you mind taking a few suggestions from someone, like yourself, who has proven not to be as smart as once thought. Let’s face it; the previous eleven months have not included your finest hours. Mike King: Thanksgiving ThoughtsThis article published in "The Turret" (Ft Knox's on post newspaper), is offered for insight, reflection and perhaps inspiration for as much as we differ, we share a common reverence to those fallen unrecognized. Mike King: Get Out And VoteWould the Citizens of Peachtree City be so apathetic as to elect an individual whose four years on Council reflect an affinity toward a failed mayor’s policies? Would those citizens also elect an individual who would go to great expense to obfuscate their record? Would they go so far as to elect someone who has proven to be an impediment to real progress and a protégé of the ‘good old boy’ network? Ladies and gentlemen, this is not merely a council seat, but the office of mayor and direction of our fair city for the next four years. Mike King: Peachtree City's Next MayorIn just over three weeks Peachtree City will choose its next mayor who will inherit, arguably, the worst economic scenario of any mayor in our history. A scenario brought about, in part, by city leadership devoid of the fortitude to take unpopular actions so as to avert or minimize the current financial crisis so as not to jeopardize their future political aspirations. Mike King: Who in the Private Sector Would Hire Morons Like This?Just a copy & paste from a right leaning blog that I thought might be worthy of a comment or two from folks who really think those in government have your interests at heart. Mike King: Don Haddix Is Needed NowNearly four years ago I was persuaded by friends and colleagues alike to get behind the band wagon to elect our current mayor. A decision that still haunts me to this day, although I cannot, in good faith, say that his opponent would have fared better. Mike King: A New Low..This past weekend I happened upon a story here in Peachtree City that, at least to me, signifies a new "norm" for those living out of the pockets of taxpayers. Mike King: My Conservative Friends Keep Missing OpportunitiesAlas, as a staunch right-winger I cannot help being at a loss at the direction of the Republican Party. With all their rhetoric about the doom and gloom pertaining to the Obama Budget, why is it that just now they are offering an alternative? Mike King: Just For The History BuffsAn article I ran across dealing with the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. Granted, I have not taken the time to verify its entirity, but doctrinally, the manner in which the Soviet Armed Forces projected their power demonstrates just how close we may have come to proliferation. Mike King: Peachtree City PoliticsHere we go again, a mere three years have gone by and we are apt to have an incumbent mayor vying to retain office. The only difference is his opponent will have had just over a year and one-half on Council and privy to the city's business dealings(both good and bad). This election will likely have the city divided more evenly, unlike the previous mayoral race when the incumbent was soundly defeated. Mike King: Now That We KnowLet's see now, a $3.5 million shortfall in the city budget and no one saw it coming, or did not possess the fortitude to shout a warning. Or maybe it was foreseen and kind of mentioned here and there with an appropriate amount of spin that would allow those we elected to keep kicking it down the road. Mike King: Georgia Politics And Common Sense.......perhaps a generation or longer ago went hand in hand, but now we mere citizens have to view the terms as an oxymoron. In today's overregulated and "me first" society those we elect to public office have conveniently ignored the term service and have replaced it with the deadly sin, greed. Some may argue out of that assessment but would be hard pressed to avoid the label of lust as it pertains to power in office. Mike King: I've Had Enough of Government For Awhile, Thank YouBeing a parent to three grown children makes me lucky in that they are beyond their formative years and are not subjected to the daily scandals of our government, the misery of many of our world's inhabitants, or the rewarding of those who chose to exist at the labor of others. My hat is off to those trying to rear children today and teach lessons of civility, generosity, and service. Yours is a daunting task. Mike King: Republican Redistribution?Just how far has the party supposedly on the right slipped? An interesting article concerning the Big 3 Auto Bailout and a Republican Congressman from Michigan revealed that my party is coming apart at the seams. It appears that Rep Knollenberg, when quesioned about taxpayer concerns over the bailout, responded that the money belonged to Congress not the taxpayers. Mike King: Harold, I Guess I'm Irresponsible.........so you and pal Bernie go ahead and make the decision for me and mine regarding trash services. Having gone into business with each other, you surely know better than us mere citizens what it is that is in our best interests. Mike King: Congratulations And Godspeed To Mr ObamaI did not support the man, did not vote for the man, and attempted to sway others to my point of view , but despite all of this he is now the President-Elect of the United States. As such, I ask that all Americans rally to the cause that enables a nation such as ours to select its leadership without fear of reprisal. Mike King: Darn, I'm Tired Of All This Crap!Come Wednesday morning hopefully we're all going to awaken pissed off, happy, or still in the fog of blissful ignorance. For me I'm thinking of going fishing and getting away from computers, televisions, radios, or even current print for I've become afflicted with pre-election overload. Mike King: Enough Already!Simply stated, in the past two weeks many like myself have lost upwards of twenty percent of their portfolios during this "economic crises." Democrats are blaming Republicans and Republicans are blaming Democrats in hopes that their respective citizenry is both stupid and naive enough to believe them. Mike King: Imagine If This Election Were........taking place in the old west, let's say mid 1870"s in a bustling Wyoming and somehow Peachtree City was plunked down right in the middle of it. Sure,it's election time and old Harold and Boone are at the Y-Knot saloon buying up volunteers to not only vote their way, but enlisting the help of those departed souls who reside in the local cemetery. Mike King: What If We Tell Wall Street No?We have a constitutional right to expect a solid separation between church and state, and I propose that we create that separation within the business community. Could it be that those distinguished statesmen/women in Washinton fear the fact that a free enterprise system could possibly still work. Mike King: We Deserve What We Get.......when we do not take the time to truly identify who it is we place into public office/trust. It is indeed difficult to become answerable to a public for which one serves, but to my knowledge each individual elected to office has done so voluntarily. Mike King: MEMORIAL DAYFellow bloggers I ask that you attend your local Memorial Day activities a week from Monday. Irrespective of how you may view the military, this day is set aside to honor those who have fallen in defense of our nation during current and previous conflicts. Mike King: McCain-Clinton Ticket????????Found an interesting article at Townhall.com that while quite extreme, was indeed interesting. What if there was such a thing? Would Her Highness subordinate herself to be placed as a number 2, would McCain be maverick enough to do such a thing? Could it be a precursor to the demise of the two major parties? Mike King: Hack, NUK, Hutch...Thanks for the visit this am, it was indeed a pleasure. Hopefully, we can try again and perhaps solve the world's problems--If only someone would listen. Mike King: Nine Months More To Bash The President........for whatever missteps we can recall over the last seven years, then until we grow old will we be subject to both the spoken and written words of defammation that still lingers. These certainly are not unlike those when a comparison is made to his predessor, or his, or even his, and so on. Mike King: Random ThoughtsWith the demise of SB458 the Fayette County schools breathe a sigh of relief, while absolutely nothing of consequence will be done to remedy a problem that will only get worse. The problem remains for Clayton County kids and will only worsen in time. Mike King: Racism Vice Culturalism? With all the hoopla ongoing between the two Democratic candidates regarding the race issue, and now the somewhat implied racially toned issues facing us locally because of the imminent loss of accredidation of the Clayton County Schools, I submit that the issue is one of culturalism not race. |
