Nicole File's "open book"

The Crime Dog's picture

I'm re-posting this because it got buried under some less important blogs:

I would vote for Nicole File if she:

1. Kept her own promise about "open government." She can't even post information on her own website. The "issues" and "SPLOST" links are under construction. How are we to judge her as a potential board member?

2. Gave SPECIFIC cuts she would make to the budget. Don't say 'oh we'd have to look at this, this and this.' GIVE US DETAILS SO WE KNOW YOU'VE DONE YOUR HOMEWORK!!! If the current BOE has been as fiscally irresponsible as you say, this should be easy as pie!!!

Lacking the above, she is only following the campaign tactics of Steve Brown:

Rule A: attack, attack and attack

Rule B: When someone asks what you'd do if elected, redirect questions to the faults of the current administration/elected officials. (also known as pointing the finger)

stick to facts. Ones that are there. Why are the schools in the cowpastures, and the kids in the towns?

Why did the BOE buy land for an elm, middle, and high, then sell the land for the high to a developer who then put in a subdivision?

Why did they the buy over 30 more acres down the road for the high school from a developer? Common sense would tell you that the excess again would be sold to a developer who would then fill up the school that our tax money paid for. Tell us how this helps ...US? The present taxpayers? How does this help our children?

Nicole File's vastly "under construction" website offers no specifics on what she'd cut.

The major issue facing the BOE now is the budget. Cuts are ahead; the eSPLOST won't pass (to my chagrin). Hard times aren't ahead THEY ARE HERE!!!

The current BOE has suggested a ton of different things to cut. Nothing from Mrs. File.

She's not going to unbuild the new schools and get our money back.

And if she can't keep her own website updated, how can we believe she'll be able to magically "open" the BOE "secrets"???

The only saving grace is I do believe Mrs. File has the best interest of the school system at heart, which is more than I can say about YOU!!! You're just out for meanspiritedness and vindictiveness.

I don't know how many programming languages you write but keeping a WEB site updated isn’t easy.

Your biggest concern seems to be why Mrs. File's WEB site doesn't meet or exceed your expectations’, that's a shame.

I find it strange that you don't equally criticize the FCBoE for their lack of WEB site updating.

Have you tried to get a copy of the budget from the FCBoE site? Have you ever attempted to seek FCBoE policy information from the FCBoE WEB site? The FCBoE has a highly paid, over-bloated staff that is supposed to maintain their WEB site and it's been deemed wanting at best.

Get off your soapbox about updated WEB sites.

The PTC WEB site is usually two or three weeks behind on certain meetings and months behind on others.. The Fayette County WEB site is several weeks, if not months, behind on updating theirs.

If you have questions about Mrs. Files intensions, CALL HER and ASK!

C'mon homie, it's simple.

It's called Blogger.com. Free, down and dirty.

Yeah, not pretty nor snazzy but easy as PIE to update/edit as often as you want.

It's about the hypocritical nature of claiming to "open up" the records of the BOE yet at the same time failing to open your own records for all to see.

It's simple: Practice what you preach.

published. She seems to be an open book to me and my wife. We've talked to many neigbors that know her from volunteering at church and with kids sports. She doesn't try to be anything but herself.

I think you are looking for some reason not to support her. That is your decision. If you want to talk about real issues, ask the current board what happened to all of the bond money, the reserve fund and the budget.

The Crime Dog's picture

You say ask about "what happened to all of the bond money, the reserve fund and the budget."

I say: how will Mrs. File get it back??? Seriously!!!

-- She can't hop in a time machine and vote to get the money back.

-- She can't unbuild the new schools and get us a refund.

So financially what's she gonna do to get schools through the crisis facing us now?

How hard could it be?

You have questions and she has answers.

Do what I do, make an appointment and sit down with the candidate and ask away.

As far as "Blogger.com" is concerned, your ISP has to host it, so you may be out of luck.

As usual, there usually isn't a quick easy fix as you think there should be.

Pick up the phone.

The Crime Dog's picture

No phone call needed.

The fact that she has not addressed the immediate financial crunch tells me ALL I NEED TO KNOW.

when Janet calls mrs. File's house she'll know who is calling and she won't be protected by the anonymity of the Citizen blogs. The party would be over for Smola then.

I could care less if you blithering idiots believed it, but I have no relation to Smola nor anyone sitting on the BOE.

If you loonies would stop tilting at windmills and imaginary enemies (Direct PAC ringing a bell?) you might actually get someone elected with some common sense.

Sorry. Just dreaming there.

No, I didn't think so.

Their website isn't perfect, but the information is there to be found.

Google's site function is my friend!

Now back to Mrs. File. I shouldn't have to go beyond The Citizen and Mrs. File's website to find out where she'd cut. Tens of thousands of people are voting in the election and I don't suppose you think Mrs. File should field thousands upon thousands of phone calls do ya?

Your girl MIGHT get 25 percent but could've been a contender had she done this right and not gone the "Steve Brown" route.

I know it's not there because I called and asked for it and was told "we don't post that on our WEB site". They were kind enough to tell me for a fee I could have it copied and snail mailed to my home address.

Do you find it difficult to sit down with someone and ask pointed questions to their face? I don't.

The Mayor of PTC hates my guts but he'll have a sit down with me if I ask for it.

I want to see the candidate sweat. Shawn Hannity has nothing on me. If I want answers I go to the source. If they want answers from me they make an appointment and I get them in A.S.A.P. That's how it's done.

If you want face time with Governor Perdue, call and make an appointment. I've been there several times and received the answers to my questions.

Why are you so afraid of a write-in candidate?

The Crime Dog's picture

The point is Mrs. File should do a better job of communicating.

If she's unafraid of her cuts, she should broadcast them.

I've met Mrs. File, and seen her at work in front of a crowd. But she's too busy fighting Janet to address the impending BOE fiscal crisis.

Submitted by hi grover on Thu, 10/30/2008 - 10:59pm.

move on little bow-wow. If you want to ask mrs. File a question call her. I really think you just like howling at the moon. Are you not getting enough attention from the master? It is like you have a bad case of fleas, you just keep scratching and scratching. or better yet, you are the dog that keeps chasing its tail. Roll over and play dead with this issue. Why not take the time and ask? You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain.

You could get the answers to your questions or not.

Just ask.

You're so witty! Put down the bottle of wine and step away from the corkscrew!!!

We KNOW Smola's record and we have the long list of proposed cuts on the table that the administration has compiled. It's the most important issue facing the board.

But we don't know what Mrs. File's gonna do. That's the point G.

Just because i live off of Redwine Rd does not mean i indulge in the stuff. Go back to chewing the slippers and get a clue. Your master Smola has not done anything to help the the financial woes of the school system. As a matter of fact, with all those degrees that she has and experience from Wall St. you'd think she would have done a better job at the finances.

I do NOT know Mrs. File's intentions beyond what she would've done had she been on the board the past few years.

If she is not prepared to address cuts IMMEDIATELY then she ain't ready for prime time.

it is really sad to see you act this way. trying to be concerned, acting like you care about the school system you were there to serve and protect for the last 8 years. Where was your concern over the money when you had it in hand? janet you are fooling no one. You really can't find anything bad to say about mrs. file so you make stuff up.
look at the Citizen website, you will see plenty of information there about Nicole's thoughts and ideas ( try letters to the editor)for improving the school system.

that is why I am voting for a positive change. My wife volunteers with the PTO and I help with science olympiad. I am in a great school and i don't like our current school board. as a matter of fact, I voted against all the imcumbents during the primary. I was sickened to see that they were all re-elected. I 'm voting for Mrs. File because she can be that change. She obviously has knowledge of the finances and the laws. It seems like she will be a 1-2 punch that will clean up the mess the current board has made.

I understand how you feel about being sickened by the re-election.

I voted against 2 of the incumbents myself (surprised, aren't ya?). But we were outvoted.

I can't support Mrs. File because she's obviously not ready for the job. The best way to defeat an incumbent is to show you're more capable than they are ... and unfortunately that just hasn't happened.

Submitted by hi grover on Thu, 10/30/2008 - 11:30pm.

Mrs. File has shown that she is ready for the job by showing up, and putting up. She has let the cat out of the bag for the rest of the county. She has pointed out how the school system blew $65 million dollars. She knows her stuff. I haven't heard any one from the school system try to refute what she says. Janet has not even written a letter in the paper. How incompitent are the current school board members? Read her letters, they clearly point to a number of mis steps made over the last several years. How is more of the same going to be better? It will still be more of the SAME! Due diligence, little pup. Where was that the last several years? Hush now pup. It is time for you to cozy up to the end of the bed. Sleep tight and don't let the fleas bite!

Submitted by totellthetruth on Thu, 10/30/2008 - 9:37pm.

The Crime Dog's picture
Submitted by The Crime Dog on Thu, 10/30/2008 - 9:46pm.

... I still yet may vote for her.

I hate candidates who don't address the real issues. The facts are the budget is in a huge tailspin.

What's she gonna do about it??? I saw nothing in those letters proposing specific cuts.

Mrs. File has chosen to hammer home what she would have done differently than the current board. But she has not addressed our schools' real problems.

If you File supporters think that's hate, well then it is.

Had Mrs. File handled herself better from the get-go and proposed solutions instead of whining about piddly stuff she'll NEVER CHANGE ... well I guess we'll never know.

We want a nice, clean, wholesome person on the board that loves kids. Someone who hasn't forgotten how hard it is for the little ones. Someone that they are NOT numbers to. More importantly, doesn't try to take our money and build schools we don't need in the wrong places, for our kids anyway.

How sad it is that you cannot discuss any of the important FCBOE issues.

The irony of you attacking about someone's supposed attacking is not lost.

I will truly say that the write-in candidate, Ms. File, has certainly scared the pants off you special interest guys. The surest sign of desperation is trying to hack her character instead of the legitimate issues she has raised.

Crime Dog,

Is the fact that a lowly write-in candidate, an underdog, cannot get things loaded up to her website really the biggest issue for you? That is kind of petty, right?

I am shocked she has a website at all. She has even managed to place signs all over the county. Look, for a write-in candidate, I have never seen such a presence.

Ms. File addresses quite a few issues in her letters to the editor. And yes, I did complain about Harold Logsdon and Matt Ramsey who were official candidates with large campaign accounts and backing. There was no excuse for them not to throughly address the issues. Go back and look at their responses to the newspaper and their letters, sad.

As for Mayor Logsdon, we can see why he did not want to get too specific.

Really, Crime Dog, go find some solid issues in her letters or articles written about her and let the debate begin.

Finally, yes I have been paying for the education of your children for the past 12 years, and you are most welcome.

I do have to commend you for not ducking my questions. And you have the audacity to use your real name, which is good too.

As for you characterizing Nicole as a "lowly write-in candidate", that's a bit much. She's smart enough (and has enough cash) to:
A) Have a decent looking website AND lots of signs
B) Run ads in The Citizen, and,
C) Take advantage of the letters to the editor section (free!).

She's run a pretty admirable campaign. It's just a shame she didn't do it for the primary.

It is convenient that she didn't have to attend the other candidate forums and have the Citizen questions so she could tell Cal and Co. to buzz off like the rest of those jokers did!

Just like I'm sure the SPLOST is going down, unfortunately Mrs. File will go down with it and we'll have 4 more years of Smola and Smith.

That leaves it up to constituents to ride herd on them and make sure no more crap happens (see Suggarfoot et al, I'm not a Smola lover either!). I just don't have the level of Smola hatred the rest of you folks seem to have.

Submitted by hi grover on Wed, 10/29/2008 - 10:46pm.

I think you are a supporter of Smola. I just can't understand, why?
Has Smola ever addressed any of the questions that File raised in regard to bond money? How about SPLOST and the timing which is documented on the school system's website? How do you just overlook all of it?

Submitted by Boo on Wed, 10/29/2008 - 11:08pm.

Is that its going to Fayette Court on more serious charges not reported in the one sided Fayette Daily Newspaper. Janet Smola lied on her police report and now she and her hubby Mikey face criminal charges of assault, filing a false police report and stealing Nicole File's signs. Now they're going to either have to tell the truth or lie on the witness stand in real court.

It is too bad this sign stealing thing didn't happen earlier in the election. I bet people would like to know this outcome before they vote. It won't change my mind because I already voted in Fayetteville

I hope people all over the county wake up and send the incumbents school boarders packing. I guess the only contested race is Post 1. Maybe we can send that 1 on her way.

Come on. Everyone who owns property in our county is paying for the kids in the school system. You own property in Planterra Ridge, therefore you pay into the system. Perhaps we should thank every property owner?

Also, the question originally looked to your motives. As your kids go to Woodward, you do not have a "personal" stake in our county school system. Perhaps you do not support the ESPLOST because you do not have a personal stake and do not want to pay any more money. That may not be fair and probably not accurate, but you should not have answered in that way.

Peace.

We are talking about the motives of some on the school board. The bottom line is, you will never get your SPLOST, and if you don't shut up, you are gonna lose your post...then that will be 2 Smolas sent packing.

Wedge, the statement is accurate. I have never complained about paying school taxes on my property even though I do not have children in the system. So for Crime Dog to use such as an explanation for my opposing the ESPLOST is sad.

Crime Dog uses those tactics because he cannot come up with a valid argument on the big FCBOE issues.

I was also one of main proponents (as documented in the archives of this newspaper) for the largest one-time funding increase, at the time, in FCBOE history (2000 bonds). In fact, I did not complain about the 2004 bonds at the time because I trusted the FCBOE was acting properly, my mistake.

Ms. File called me one day and asked me to review the state law regarding the use of school buses. I got back with her and told her I thought her positions were correct.

She later called me back saying FCBOE Chairwoman Terri Smith threatened a lawsuit against her for challenging the FCBOE position on the use of the buses.

I later went to the FCBOE meeting originally to discuss the FCBOE's outlandish $2,000 open records fee imposed upon a local resident (and I did address it), but after seeing how they treated Ms. File at their meeting, I addressed Ms. Smith's legal threats too.

I would not doubt if Ms. File is using some of my material from my columns and I do not mind because those points are valid. I have also noticed how the pro-SPLOST people and the FCBOE are avoiding the points made in my columns. So guess who I voted for a couple of weeks ago?

Up to this year, I have been a strong documented supporter of the FCBOE. However, the lack of accountability with the 2004 bonds is more than I could tolerate. Lying to our senior citizens made me furious.

And they have used that tactic before brownie was born. Although this year they have reached a fever pitch with their "Yea, but what about George Bush" childlike rantings.

And you know what? It is not helping. This AM it is a 2-point race and shrinking. Obama is about be a historical footnote.

Brownie WAS a Democrat. Remember how he wanted to allow kids to tag graffiti on a wall built by the city?

That's nothing but liberal love!

"Brownie, you did a heck of a job!" was the last comment I heard about him. It came from George W. Bush. I didn't know Brownie was a Democrat. In fact I thought he got his FEMA job because he was a Republican (and not because he was qualified).

Crime Dog, you must be barking up the wrong tree again.

I was big 10 years before WKRP in Cincinnati was conceived - great show by the way.

If you must use 1970's comparisons -Dr. Johnny Fever would be more like it.

Do you really think Brown was/is a Democrat?

Eye-wink Couldn't resist again Eye-wink

Notice he found a way to spend all that SPLOST money he said he didn't want.

And PTC had what, 20 more jobs created during his 4-year-term?

Yeah, a Democrat in Republican clothing.
