Through the GOP looking glass

I watched some GOP convention last night on c-span to avoid the talking heads. Worked great, except that at times I thought I was at a John Wayne film festival -- one war movie after another. It is our national narrative, it seems....

Meanwhile, it's funny hearing the right-wing media talkers spin desperately to control the preggers Palin story. If the poor girl was anyone else these same people would be whispering that she's a cheap skank raised by clueless, out-to-lunch parents. (When Britney Spears' sister got knocked up, Bill OReilly called her a pinhead and Rush Limburger declared "the parents are the culprits.")

But because our favorite 44-year-old soon-to-be-Grandma is a righteous righty, now teen pregnancy is suddenly "an American story," one with which we all must "empathize." Gag...

And last night I saw where W hisownself parrotted the McCain mythology about his "lifetime of service." The bio I read shows a privileged opportunist with a huge ego. Yes, he handled himself heroically as a POW but other than that his life has been all about advancing the cause of John McCain. He grew up the son and grandson of admirals who helped him get into Annapolis, where he finished 5th from the bottom but partied hearty. Once safely home and a military celebrity, he started cheating on his chunky first wife and eventually tossed her overboard for a much younger, much thinner and much blonder beer heiress. He then parlayed her money and his POW story into a long, ego-stroking political career and more houses than he can keep track of.

Using your logic, 70% of African American parents are nothing but "cheap skank raised by clueless, out-to-lunch parents."

(70% of African American children are born out-of-wedlock)

What has Barack done about that?

You may be good at other things Smiling but you don't read well. That was not "my logic" at all. Try again.

You're voting for Obama.

I'm still listening. At this point I really have no idea what kind of president either one of them would make. Either one could be great, either one could be a disaster. I do think the "rock star" criticism of Obama is unfair, however. He is far more of a self-made man who overcame his circumstances than McCain, who is far more of a career celebrity who gets way more mileage out of the "character" factor than he deserves, imho.

I look elsewhere.
