Peachtree City Fire

The Fire Dept. is scraping the bottom of the well according to one firefighter currently employed as a full-time member. After speaking with this gentleman again I was surprised at the amount of " disrespect " he had at the management of the department. He stated that " it's one thing to hire personnel that work 48's, but it's another to put my life in the hands of a housewife." Usually I would just listen and wonder why this person doesn't just pursue other employment, but I spoke with another firefigher that lives not to far from myself and he was somewhat forthcoming with interesting information. There were two similarities that struck me as informative. One was that there was little to no faith in the Fire Chiefs abilities to run a " fire " dept, and the other was that firefighters from other departments come here to just " hang out." The last remark seemed repetitive and was repeated several times buy both people. TAX dollars wasted to just hang out? Interesting!!!!!

I have read several of your comments but not all of them.....maybe I missed it, but what is your profession? I was also wondering what you meant by the term "housewife"?

So do I understand you correctly? Just the firefighters that have a 2nd job with another dept. "just hang out"? Does this mean the firefighters in PTC that do not work at another station, but may work with an ambulance service, doctors office, or hospital just "hang out" too?
Anybody I know like that has my utmost respect for having the ambition to work 2 jobs to raise a family and stay off welfare. Wish there were more people like this that are not afraid to work for what they have.

You hear so much stuff ...positive AND negative... about the PTC fire dept, it might be a good idea for Cal to send one of his ace reporters to spend 24 hours at a fire station to get the "real" story.

Sniffles, if I am not mistaken, there is a fireman on TheCitizen staff, Rick Rykerly (sp) I believe.

Mac614, I too would be interested in knowing what your occupation is--you sound like an interested citizen sometimes and like a disgruntled firefighter others. Which is it?

Housewives??? I imagine they meant to say female firefighters. I am sure any female firefighter has gone through the same training as male firefighters. I found that statement mean-sprited and chauvanistic--unless you know something to the contrary about female training for firefighters. If that is the case and having a female firefighter puts any citizen in PTC at danger then it should be your duty to let us all know. If anyone has information about practices that are dangerous to citizens then they should identify themselves and state clearly what they think is wrong. When statements are made behind a blog name and indicated that the individual was told by a friend or friend who was told by another friend it begins to sound like sour grapes.

You want a Citizen reporter to spend only 24 hours at a fire station to get the "real" story.
All they could do with that is to quote what they were told at one of several stations! 24 hours?

There have been research papers done by professionals concerning how towns operate fire and police departments. Find two alike and consider that!

The facts are that the development of the heritage at many fire stations comes from their establishment maybe 125 years ago!

The Irish, the Italians, etc., set up such organizations
in the beginning to assure correct politics as well as job security!
Much of that still exists, along with the side jobs as pay for taking a low paying job.
NY fire fighters can no longer be called low paid, nor can the police but until recent years much graft was involved.

Small town like ours however only play politics, there is little if any graft or dishonesty. Second jobs may be spread around however.

Just look at what is happening in Atlanta with the shutting down of one little, unneeded fire station! All hell has happened!

I suppose there is a lady, or maybe more than one, doing 48s at the fire stations!
Someone obviously is bringing up the old, " how would she carry me out of a burning building?" Of course, the answer to that is it isn't planned for her to do so---neither could Shorty Lardo, the captain!

I think this might be one "expose," if it exists, that we could do without. Just tell the Chief to correct it!

More harm could be done than corrected.
Look what happened at the Police Department in PTC when "exposed!"
