Dancing in PTC

JeffC's picture

Is there anywhere for adults to dance in PTC, Fayetteville, Newnan or around the area? Been to Mulligans already. The Red Room is hip-hop. Any 70's 80's music places? Any country music or jazz places? Anywhere married people can go to dance with their own husbands and wives?

Maguire's Irish Pub in Senoia has been hosting Saturday night dance parties. The DJ plays mostly '80s music, but I think is willing to take suggestions as well. The crowd is mixed in age groups, which I think is fun, and when I was there the place had enough space to move around.

The only complaint I have is that the DJ tends to keep his music a little too loud. If he can learn to keep the volume at a good level, it will be a fun place to continue going. They post their events on Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/maguiresirishpub.

I've been to the Red Room, Mulligans and the Tavern and I much prefer Maguire's to all of these places.

Try the Tyrone Depot. They say they are starting Friday night dances.

Let us know how it is.

When I was growing up, I heard from my minister that dancing is just "foreplay set to music."

In this, he may have found a single point of agreement with evolutionary psychologists.

I was once contacted by the dean of an ultra conservative Christian college in Ohio. Someone had given him my name, and he was inviting me to apply for a teaching position. He told me, "Faculty must sign a pledge that they will neither attend movies, drink or dance."

I said, "Well, I don't dance."

(Actually, this is not exactly true. I have made a spectacle of myself and embarrassed my wife at Allman Brothers shows. If you don't start moving when they're doing "One Way Out," "Statesboro Blues," or "You Don't Love Me," then you got no soul.)

I did say I wanted to dance with my own wife....

Not to get off subject here, but how is your wife doing? And Jeff, my husband and I dance in our kitchen also. When we first meet, the only place to go dancing was in Atlanta.

Thanks for asking.

We are "cautiously optimistic."

At the risk of upsetting some folks here, there was a jazz place with a dance floor in Fayetteville. It was Onyxx. Admittedly, I thought the food was overpriced and, ultimately, a bad business plan brought the place down. But, if people wanted that type of business, they needed to support it financially. Otherwise, you get more of the Red Room and such.

Just my 2 cents.

"Anywhere married people can go to dance with their own husbands and wives?"

We dance in our own kitchen sometimes. Smiling

We dance on our deck.

But just to clarify... were you offering us your kitchen?

She could form a social club in her kitchen and call us the "Dancing Bloggers."

"Clogging" is a traditional form of dance.

If we took that up, we could be called the Clogger Bloggers or Blogger Cloggers or Clogging Bloggers or Blogging Cloggers.

Or the Micro Waves, or the Hot Taters--the choice is encless. Hey, I have an idea--for the next bloggers' koffee klatch, let's all dress up in dance costumes, some as cloggers, some as be-boppers, some as jitterbuggers (such a word?),etc. Wouldn't this just make Sage, Dollar, etc go "Bonkers" trying to keep track of all of us as we hold our nefarious meeting, planning to overthrow something. He/she would love it for his/her 'research'.

I like the idea. I have been looking for an excuse to buy a zoot suit. I'll be the person with that "short man in a barrel" look.

Same problem here as with the desire of many for a youth center.
The city will not run it. Don't want the responsibility.
With private enterprise one gets red rooms for adults and mall lots for kids!
