I'm Voting for Scott Ballard

My name is Holly Peace. Scott Ballard hired me as his legal assistant in August, 2003. I worked for him at Ballard & Ballard helping him defend criminals in Fayette County for a year, until he came to me one day and said he was running for District Attorney. He told me that he had a heart for protecting this circuit, and felt there was a need for someone to step in and do a better job of prosecuting. To do this, Scott gave up a much larger salary, opened his personal life to the public, and worked hard to campaign for the position.
He was elected by a slim margin - and the planning began. Scott implemented new ways of organizing and prosecuting cases. There were over 300 cases that were backed up in the system, and the first order of business was to get them all ready for trial. He hired a great team of prosecutors, investigators and secretaries that were committed to the serious job of protecting the circuit, and they worked tirelessly to get caught up.
The Assistant District Attorney position is one that is very demanding, for little pay (in the world of attorney salaries). And, as Rudjard Hayes points out, some can't continue the position forever and had to resign. I personally never knew of anyone who left because of Scott's management skills (including Rudjard, who at the time claimed other reasons for leaving the office). I myself left the DA's office in February of this year. I enjoyed my experience and job there - but the truth is, they couldn't compete with the salary range I was offered for a position as a legal secretary in Atlanta. Although I gained experience and knowledge of the system AND I felt Scott Ballard was the best boss an employee could ask for, there came a time when I had to move on for the sake of my family's financial future.
Early into Scott's term, he testified for Jeff Allen. He was a newly elected public official, and he made a personal decision to help a person in his church fellowship. He did not do this because he likes child molesters - he did it because he was subpoenaed to offer his personal opinion as to Jeff's character. I do agree that as a public official elected to oversee the good of the people - it was a mistake. I do NOT agree that Scott is soft on crime.
Scott Ballard is passionate about prosecuting criminals in this circuit. He has implemented a system that gets the criminals to court quickly, and doesn't keep victims waiting years for an outcome.
I can personally attest that he is a man that is trustworthy, loyal to victims and citizens, and passionate about his position as District Attorney.
I never worked closely with Rudjard Hayes since I was in the Fayette office and he was in the Spalding office. I do know that several employees could not work effectively and/or had personal conflicts with Mr. Hayes. I'm not one for office gossip, but what is not being released to the public is how many employees had complained about Rudjard. Many of us felt his intentions were to run against Scott from the minute he was hired. We warned Scott, but he dismissed our 'rumors' and kept him on staff. It was a rude awakening when we ran into Rudjard at last year's 4th of July parade wearing a shirt proclaiming he was running for DA. I know it hurt Scott's heart - Rudjard was someone he thought of as a friend and confidant. However, for the rest of the DA's staff, it was no surprise.
Scott's promise from the beginning was that he would run a straight forward campaign. No dirt-slinging or personal jabs - just the truth about how the DA's office has been a well-oiled machine in churning out tough sentences to criminals since Scott was elected.
It has frustrated me to see Scott stick to the facts about the cases we've won, and the numbers of years sentenced - while Rudjard assaults Scott's character and morals. The notion that Scott Ballard is not tough on crime, or that he likes child molesters is ridiculous. Being a former employee, and personal friend, I can tell you that it is not true.

Citizens of the Griffin Judicial Circuit - VOTE FOR SCOTT BALLARD. He is a man of integrity and has done wonders as the leader of prosecution in his first term.
You can trust he takes his position as District Attorney seriously, and that is not something I can vouch for in Rudjard Hayes.

Once a defense lawyer, always a defense lawyer...What wonders has he done?
Let's just think about this...he testified for a convicted child molester, he doesn't file his indictments correctly, resulting in overturned convictions and, he doesn't want to prosecute people arrested for being child predators because they have not committed the act against the child yet. Let's just think about this...we are going to let these scum bags make contact with kids, try to lure them into meeting them, the police find reason to arrest them, and Scotty doesn't want to prosecute them..

Scotty is scarey!!! He still thinks like a defense attorney and you know what...I already voted for Rudjard and hope everyone else does too!
It is time to take back Fayette county from the trash that is coming here to committ crimes...

I WANT JUSTICE!!!!

1100 open records right now.

Which includes cases waiting for Grand Jury, cases enrolled in Pre-Trial Diversion, and cases waiting on case reports and GBI results. There's going to be an amount of 'open records' at any given time - but if you look at the trial calendar you'll note that it's not taking long for cases to go to trial.

that:

"I work for the District Attorney's Office in Fayette, Spalding, Pike and Upson county....My job title is Pre-Trial Diversion Director - which means I run a program for first time felons who are not yet convicted..."

"once [the felons] do everything I tell them to do, I dismiss their case and clear their criminal history record"

"I can do what I need to when I need to (which sometimes includes an afternoon poker game."

"It's a Thursday morning and in about 15 minutes and I've got to head to the golf course for a benefit our office is hosting. We are going to ride around on golf carts..."

If that's the same Bama Holly, no wonder you loved working for "Scott Free" Ballard.

I went to that link and didn't see that she had typed that in. Where exactly did you see it. Are you sure that it's on there?

Here's a live link to the page:

MY SPACE PAGE

Why the heck would she post this kind of stuff on her MySpace page? That's way too much information!

And what you say is 'way too much information' is nothing that is a secret. The annual charity golf event is something the DA's office still does. It raises a lot of money for great causes - and law enforcement, judges, and others participate as well. You can find pictures of it on Scott's campaign website.
As for the other comments - the point of that blog was that I was really enjoying my job. I got my work done, worked 40 hours a week, and was able to get off in time to attend local poker events. It's something I can no longer do now that I work in Atlanta and have a commute.
Enjoy my MySpace! Smiling

It is wonderful that a former employee feels enough loyalty to support their former employer, that is rarely the case. However, loyalty is out of place when there are huge facts telling us things are different than the rosy one portrayed. You blast Rudjard for assaulting Ballard's character and then do the same to Rudjard! I do not know Mr. Rudjard, have never met him. I did take him up on calling the number he provided and he was very succinct in answering my questions. To say Ballard made a mistake is treating it very lightly. If one of the children involved in the case of Jeff Allen was yours how would your view change then? That is something that is overlooked far too much already all over the nation. As a Christian man he should have "lived" the truth instead of just defending the character of a man who: first abused alcohol, (and probably drove home that way),apparently had done things before that were questionable while drinking, by the very virtue of his job as DA used that to help him and this time it was for MOLESTING CHILDREN! We are told to forgive and help everyone, especially other Christians. We are also told that we must reap the consequences of our actions, while still being forgiven. Forgiving does not mean getting away with it. For me, that alone tells me I must vote Mr. Ballard out of office.

Be careful! Rudjard has the typical 'politician charm'. I don't personally believe he has the work ethic to be a good leader for his employees if elected. He was rarely in his office (and always claimed he was working outside of the office). I know in one instance we found out he was at the Fayette election office getting last year's campaign contribution numbers with David Studdard. At the time they claimed they were just being nosy, a couple months later (after they both resigned and started campaigning), we realized the truth. I've also heard stories of Rudjard using offensive language toward staff members. All of this is second-hand, but came from reliable fellow employees. I didn't want to go into details since I wasn't there to see these things myself - but the many employees shared their feelings of uneasiness working with Rudjard while I was employed at the DA's office. If you'll note - I am frustrated with Scott sticking to the facts of the campaign, and would rather him share some of Rudjard's personality and work ethic flaws. I wanted to point some of them out since he won't. If you believe that by doing that I'm assaulting Rudjard's character - well, that's kind of the point.
Also, I understand the testimony Scott gave for Jeff Allen may have been more than a mistake - but to base his character and morals off of that decision would be wrong. It does not paint an accurate picture of who he is as a prosecutor. I am personally very good friends with the police officer who was involved in the Fayette arrest of Mr. Allen (which led to the hearing in South Georgia) - and knowing ALL of the facts, I still stand behind Scott Ballard for DA.

Yes, it was a mistake.
