The origin of SB 458

Front-page article in AJC on SB 458 doesn't mention the Fayette angle, but it does shed a little light on the broader context.

It seems SB 458 was introduced by 6 Republican state senators as a vehicle to push private school vouchers and pursue their "school choice" ideology. (The applicable section saying parents of dis-accredited public schools can jump counties is part of the original language, not an amendment.)

Ah, the law of unintended consequences strikes again!

I oppose this bill also I do not think it is our responsibilty to use our money out of district to come to our school systems. I moved away from Clayton County schools to get away from this problem. It is not any of the surrounding counties responsibilities to cover for parents who voted for their Board of Education twice. After their first term in that office they should have voted them out. Also how do you put someone on the Board of Education who did not even graduate High School.

Oh the irony of all this. Fayette schools, plundered by the same 'element' the Republicans were trying to escape from, by introducing and then approving SB 458.

We have several spots open at Crabapple Elementary so we can take some Clayton kids... our family doesn't mind at all.

Stop punishing the children because of the ineptness of the adults in charge.

Turns out our own Fayette GOP state senator, Ronnie Chance, voted FOR the bill when it cleared senate by 32-21.

Also voting FOR: Mitch Seabaugh.

Meanwhile, Democratic Sen. Valencia Seay of Riverdale voted NO.

hmmmm...
