Winter Soldier - this weekend (Hack, River, other blog vets?)The "Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan" is taking place in Washington DC this weekend. Have you had an opportunity to see the Winter Soldier video or DVD? I found a short clip (15+ minutes, link below), however, it gets VERY GRAPHIC **WARNING** about half way through the video. I was going to see this at my UUCA church back in January, however, the snowstorm kept us from traveling up to Atlanta for the viewing that night. "From March 13-16th, U.S. veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan will testify to what is really happening day in and day out, on the ground in these occupations. The four-day event will bring together veterans from across the country to testify about their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan - and present video and photographic evidence. In addition, there will be panels of scholars, veterans, journalists, and other specialists to give context to the testimony." WINTER SOLDIER: IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN btw - Bush was speaking via videoconference to U.S. military in Afghanistan this week about his perception of fighting on the front lines, and in his opinion he saw it as being "romantic." This statement continues to reinforce his mental 'disconnect' from the realities of war and combat, in my opinion. He states: "I must say, I'm a little envious. If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed. It must be exciting for you … in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger. You're really making history, and thanks." Main Stream's blog | login to post comments |
