Bush's Ill-fated Attempt at Spreading Democracy

Main Stream's picture

The Bush administration's arrogant policy of 'spreading democracy' by invading Iraq, will no doubt require the U.S. to be in that region, in some capacity, for decades to come. His advisors on the Middle East, if he even had any at the time, should have warned him of the deep religious divide between Sunni and Shiite and that attempting to bring them ALL under the umbrella of Democracy, would be futile.

As we continue to play 'Wack-A-Mole' in Iraq, relishing in small local and regional victories, and patting ourselves on the back regarding the recent surge, Iraq continues to slip into the depths of disturbing, religious extremism.

protect oil supplies in the region. Because if the Kuwaiti and the House of Saud falls and a radical Muslim government replaced both, things could get interesting.

The ones ignored in Northern Africa, gaining in Afghanistan, gaining in Pakistan, or the ones we're powerless against (due to a lack in credibility) in Iran?

How do we stop them? How many decades? How much torture? How many trillions? How much tax do we cut to cover the bill?

That's what happens when you swallow the line that Islam is a religion of peace and spread democracy instead of the republican/Christian ideals on which our country was founded. (That's not equating the GOP with true Christianity, although Dems often do so.)

Do you think the Burka is the 'mark of the beast'? LOL!

Another thought.... calling Islam a religion of peace is like standing in the middle of a red ant hill and claiming that the little critters are certainly cute and friendly. Shocked

Are you suggesting we have shown christianity as relates to foreign policy to be "peaceful?" A GOP strategist on Fox said one of John McCain's strong points was "he's pro war, and that's good." Yes, Denise and Git, christiany politics have been very peace imparting. LOL

This is a good argument to include an Amendment in Iraq's new constitution, if they ever get one, requiring the Separation of Church and State.
