Back when you and I served in the military, and arguably since the founding of our Republic, military officers were responsible for the conduct of their troops.

Bush certainly changed that!

Now we have the exact opposite situation: troops are being held responsible for the conduct of their officers.

Case in point: Abu Gharib. With Bush's direct consent, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld implemented a system where torture was not only implemented, but encouraged. When accusations came out that troops were torturing prisoners, they were routinely denied by the military heirarchy.

They couldn't deny those damning photos, though.

So the troops in the pictures were sentenced to hard time, and with the exception of one sacrificial lamb officer (Gen Karpinski), the officer corps closed ranks and avoided responsibility.

P.S. didja see that the number of high school graduates enlisting in the Army last year plummeted to 74%...down from 94% just 3 years ago?

While I must say that Mr Bush's loyalty to Mr Rumsfeld got in the way of removing him far too late, I believe that BG Karpinsky was the officer held accountable. After all, was she not the Provost Marshall? Were the perpetrators not prosecuted?

Granted, it has been some time since I wore my country's uniform, but to me I see no rehaping of the military.

Direct consent to torture? I would disagree. I view Abu-Gharib as the result of a poorly disiplined Reserve or National Guard unit that simply allowed bored young Military Policemen to get out of control.

The Army has always been the lowest educated and least trained branch of the military. In fact, the Army is where you served your year is it not?

As for me, I say:

How about just the plain fact that he was raised in a radical muslim environment. Went to a muslim school and attends a church who pushes the black radical agenda. He has NO idea on how to balance a budget or run a government. If it was not for the celebs stepping up, he wouldn't have the fame he has now. 1) Barack Obama was not raised in a radical muslim environment. His father was a muslim, yet evidence says he was not radical. Contrary to popular belief,most muslims aren't radical. His father also divorced and left his mother at age 2 and had no contact with him until he was 12.

2) He attended a school that was predominately Muslim in enrollement but did not offer a muslim curriculam or teaching. That would be just like called Starr's Mill a Baptist school since most of the kids are baptist.

3)Check out: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp to see that what you say has been checked out and refuted.

As I've said if you don't wish to vote for him, don't. But don't lower yourself to distorting the truth or should I say lying.

Call me crazy, but I actually looked forward to going downstairs to the Emory cafeteria in the mornings for breakfast: bacon, scrambled eggs and cheese grits. And then a Starbucks Verona for coffee.

My cholesterol level has likely taken a sharp upward turn as a result.

I like greens, too.

I believe that it is "poke salad" made from pokeweed, if I am not mistaken. Keep the faith.

Indians used to paint their horses with the juice from the poke weed berries. Our early Americans wrote part of the Constitution with ink from the poke berries.

Some, in the south, have eaten the very young leaves, boiled three times and the rinse water disposed between each boiling.

Medical experts find it to dangerous to trust that all the toxins are removed. Birds can eat the berries because their digestive system doesn't penetrate the seed which is the toxin in the berry.

It was considered a folk remedy, but it is not.

Many ate it because they had little else to eat. I remember those times somewhat. And like dandelion greens and mustard greens are pretty rough grub.
