Support the BOE triple win; challenge to anti-Spring Hill bloggers

The Crime Dog's picture

1. Give East Fayette parents what they really want ... a brand-new school to replace their ancient building. Best of all: East Fayette students would stay with the faculty that knows them the best, who are all moving to the new Inman school. Leave room for future growth!

2. Keep Spring Hill intact. Don't remove half of their students! Leave room for future growth!

3. Keep Minter intact. Don't remove another ton of kids! Leave room for future growth!

CHALLENGE TO BLOGGERS: Would somebody please tell me how this would be *bad* for any of the kids???

East Fayette kids would be bused to school on local roads almost entirely. That means they don't get stuck in traffic on the state highways, particularly during the morning commute!

If you want to claim it's too costly, show me the figures and back it up with data.

Because the schools would be under utilized, by mandated state enrollment figures, the FCBoE would receive less than full state supported funds for those schools.

Having more available classroom capacity per school then needed costs us more money while other schools still need trailers.

I have no problem with planning for the future but having the equivalent of three empty elementary schools is not in the best interest of Fayette County citizens.

The FCBoE could have done a much better job of anticipating the 'need' then they have done.

I don't disagree with your concerns but I do question the financial wisdom of the current board.

The Crime Dog knew all along about what Smola was up to.

The dog supported closing an elementary school so the BOE could keep building new schools in the middle of nowhere.

Where would you cut the BOE budget dog?

I attended the beautiful dedication ceremony today at Inman Elementary. Our school is not in the middle of nowhere. It's only about five minutes from the center of Fayetteville. Not only that, all of the East Fayette family came from south of Hwy 54 anyway. Yes, the setting is rural, but our school was at the edge of the northern attendance area before. Now it's nearer to south end. So what? We are thrilled with our school and its location. Keeping E. Fayette together and moving us to the new school was a perfect solution.

I just looked at the map for Rivers Elementary. It is only four miles southeast of Burch and is taking the overcrowding from Burch that is on that side of the boundary. It's a perfect location. Again, yes, the setting is rural but it's a good location.

Have you even looked at the locations or are you just echoing "middle of nowhere" like some kind of parrot complaining when you don't know what you are talking about?

because you are over 50, those locations aren't scary and the schools big. If you are a small child, they are. You are too old and out of touch and have put your own vanity, and welfare of others, before our smallest.

It is going to be fun to watch you scramble for an excuse when the feds won't pay for half empty schools. when people try to dig into SPLOST to pay for their stupidity, people will be watching.

Fact One: I am under 40.

Fact Two: The schools in rural settings aren't scarier than schools in cities.

Fact Three: My school is smaller than eight of the other Fayette County Elementary schools: Burch, Cleveland, Crabapple, Huddleston, Kedron, Minter, Peeples, and Spring Hill.

Fact Four: You never saw East Fayette if you think this school isn't better for the smallest. That school wasn't even built for small children. It was built to be a high school.

Fact Five: The Feds only contribute funding to Special Education and Title 1. Neither of those programs is related to school size. Fayette County schools receive less than 1% of their total funding from federal sources.

This plan saved millions by not forcing BOE to hire a new principal, 2 assistant principals, and all the other positions (cafeteria/custodial) that would be required by adding a new school.

This plan made a ton of people happy; more than enough to save Smola's bacon when votes are counted Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.

I've had enough gang. Going to bed!

Thousands of empty student slots is saving money? According to Nicole File, I trust her, we lose state funding for everyone of those empty slots. Saving money?

We're losing our shirts! You have a tough time admitting you're wrong you poor Crime Dog. You obviously didn't attend Fayette County schools or you would've been smart enough not to agree with such a foolish plan.

Yeah, you'd better go to bed.

"According to Nicole File ..."

So you come to me with speculation from someone who hasn't even cracked the BOE budget to make cut recommendations??? Really!!!

The new schools aren't going anywhere. So stop whining about it and come up with a plan!!!

Given the current conditions how would YOU propose cuts be made???

What about all of the houses that the buses will pass as they take the children from E, Fayette to Inman. The children who live in those homes currently go to Minter. Should these children stay at Minter (driving by these buses AND the school) or switch to Inman?

What you all are proposing (3 way plan) is all warm and fuzzy, just not logical. But hey...I guess that's life and politics
