Steve Brown...Will you answer these question?

birdman's picture

Steve,
I read your usual "every city council but my city council is corrupt" letter and I do have some questions for you to answer:

You state "Had the City Council opposed TDK Boulevard two years ago when the negative consequences were abundantly clear, we, most likely, would have avoided the court ruling in the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority lawsuit altogether."

Why didn't your council, in four years, oppose and stop TDK?
In the same vein, could you explain your quote from your letter dated Oct.5 2005 where you stated

"Our current council was the only one that actually programmed funds in the city’s budget for TDK....Brown said there was not a person on Council against TDK."

Doesn't seem you were against TDK, in fact you took credit for pushing the project along! Yet you state, as I quoted above, that it should have been killed 2 years ago. It's Jan. 2008. Two years ago would have been Jan. 2006, only a mere 2 months after you wrote your letter to the editor! Please Steve, tell us why YOU didn't kill TDK two years ago!

Steve, you discuss the Building Moratorium. Would you please explain how when you first became mayor you instituted a Building Moratorium that was deemed illegal and thrown out in court. Could you please tell us how much of our city tax money was wasted in defending that lawsuit AFTER our city attorney advised against it?

Could you explain how the SPLOST is fraudulent? Could you mention the status of your Ethics Violation when you illegally went on TV to have the SPLOST defeated?

Could you tell us how much our taxes went down under your administration? It seems to me that actually the millage rate increased!

Could you please explain how adding an Assistant City Manager doesn't count as "new employees?" Also please address the other new jobs you created.

You see Steve, you are the ultimate politician. All your rhetoric always includes "I!" You don't get it. The city is not a kingdom. It was never about you, but about US! You never were, nor will you ever be, straight forward. As you found out in the Mayoral election, and reaffirmed in the State Rep election, you are done! Your 15 minutes are up. We have seen you in action and we have resoundly voted NO MORE! Just consider this... when was the last time there was an outright winner with 4 or more candidates? You are done, over, history.

But before you go, Please answer my questions (if you dare)!

Reply to the Birdman: I put your words in italics with my reply below.

I read your usual "every city council but my city council is corrupt" letter…

REPLY: I have never said every city council but mine was corrupt. If you have a reference, please cite it. Your ploy to exaggerate everything comes off looking like a weak attempt at appearing as you want everyone to think you know more than you actually do. No one is going to believe you if you persist with such wild statements.

You state "Had the City Council opposed TDK Boulevard two years ago when the negative consequences were abundantly clear, we, most likely, would have avoided the court ruling in the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority lawsuit altogether." Why didn't your council, in four years, oppose and stop TDK?

REPLY: Was the TDK extension built while I was in office? No. Dan Tennant, Bob Lenox, the Chamber of Commerce, Greg Dunn, Mitch Seabaugh, Direct PAC and many others publicly stated I was killing the project. So here we ask again, were the aforementioned people lying?

In the same vein, could you explain your quote from your letter dated Oct.5 2005 where you stated: "Our current council was the only one that actually programmed funds in the city’s budget for TDK....Brown said there was not a person on Council against TDK."

REPLY: Those words, which you cut and fitted together, are part of a statement I made on TDK. Bob Lenox and Dan Tennant pushed to go with TDK and quietly moved the funds (around $350,000) out of the reserve funds further exacerbating the budget crisis they left us. My council paid for some further planning; however, Coweta Commission V. Mutt Hunter refused to tell us what they planned to do on the other side of TDK, a definite red flag. None of us had anything against TDK as a road concept per se; instead, it was the rapid fire land speculation and the threat of ultra-high growth that turned us off to it. Coweta failed to comply with revealing their plans. Hence, we cut off the funding and stopped it. When Mayor Logsdon entered office they felt he would be receptive, and he was, to their plans. There are a significant number of quotes from me in the newspapers saying TDK being a "traffic reliever" as advertised was a hoax and that proved to be true.

REPLY: The local ruling was a bad one, but there was not enough confidence on the new council to appeal. I wanted to appeal. The City Attorney was Rick Lindsey who later lost the trust of the council completely and was replaced. A few months after the local ruling, case number 00-1167 in the Supreme Court of the United States, TAHOE-SIERRA PRESERVATION COUNCIL, INC., ET AL., PETITIONERS v. TAHOE REGIONAL PLANNING AGENCY, ET AL, was released confirming we were well within the law to implement a moratorium. Later, Fayetteville, Tyrone, Senoia, Coweta County all implemented moratoriums with no problems.

Could you explain how the SPLOST is fraudulent? Could you mention the status of your Ethics Violation when you illegally went on TV to have the SPLOST defeated?

REPLY: Start with the State Ethics charge filed against me by the developer driven Direct PAC. The Direct PAC guys did not even have the courage to appear at the hearing. The State Ethics Commission threw it out as completely frivolous (this is on the state record). The SPLOST was created based upon what? A model. Was the data in the model correct? Not even close. In fact, the intersection of Highways 74 and 54 which I strongly advocated for in the SPLOST talks was completely omitted. Go back and look since the SPLOST vote and you will see that every DRI filed in our sub-region (East Coweta too) lists that 74/54 intersection and vitally needed improvement. The data was tainted to justify other projects and it cost Peachtree City and Tyrone millions upon millions of dollars.

Could you tell us how much our taxes went down under your administration? It seems to me that actually the millage rate increased!

REPLY: The millage rate increased the first two years and remained the same the last two years. Keep in mind we inherited the worst budget crisis in the city’s history. In addition, we were in one of the worst economies (Post 911) in the city’s history. We made major cuts and eliminate certain projects. Eventually, we restored the city’s reserves which had nearly disappeared before we took over. We were later rewarded with an increase in our city bond rating which put us in the top five for all cities and counties in Georgia.

Could you please explain how adding an Assistant City Manager doesn't count as "new employees?" Also please address the other new jobs you created.

REPLY: The Assistant City Manager was indeed a new job position. We added some firefighters and police throughout the four years. We budgeted for them.

I enjoy the debate. Thank you for your questions.

But thanks for informing us that your administration was basically perfect, didn't support TDK at all, and only raised taxes half the time, was only sued and lost once, I could go on. Wow, I can see why your support in elections continues to dwindle.

I've said on here before, IF you would just admit to some faults that are obvious, you would get a lot further.

Except for leaving out the big push to rezone the Lutheran church at 54 and the Parkway into a 24hr drug store, that pretty much hit all the highlights/lowlights.

I get sick having to listen to Brown over and over harp on TDK when his own words and actions as Mayor say the exact opposite.

Steve Brown's clay pigeon just exploded before my eyes. Your aim is true. Truth be told though, a BB gun could have blasted that one to smithereens.

Stevie just can't seem to accept defeat, or the fact that his self-serving, sour grapes, revisionist history diatribes have absolutley no credibility. Obviously an ego thing. Just hope Steve is smart enough to keep plenty of cheese in the house to go with the whine . . .

If you think Steve Brown has an "ego thing" going, do you think constantly writing about him and obsessing over him helps inflate or deflate that ego? Do you envision Steve sitting up at night wondering what to write about other side of the trax or birdman? Just curious.

Cheers,

Talking about sour grapes, ego and revisionist history, you people take the cake! Steve expresses his opinions while you sad boys express your hate.

Only your ignorance outshines your meanness. There's not a decent comment from the lot of you. Smiling

I questioned why anyone would even dare to question King Stevie. If that's not taking up for him, I don't know what is.

I will say, I'm relieved now, he has informed us above that he had reasons for everything he and his Council did. Smiling

Birdman is right on as he always is.

Brown clown has worn out his welcome and it is time for him to figure that out for himself and get a job.

The last two political campaigns should have given him and the money pot/honey pot the message that he needs to get out of the public arena and like I may have said before - GET A JOB !!!!!!!

I work for a doctor. Does that matter?

Birdman is a pilot in case you couldn't figure that out.

The Hillary picure is just a reminder of how dangerous and ambitious she is. I'll take it down when Obama wins - unless she's his VP - then we need to watch her very carefully.

Lord knows we don't want ambitious women in this country. What signal will that send all of the women happy to just bake cookies and iron shirts. Heaven help us if this "ambitious" woman convinces a muslim woman or two to shed their burkas. It is amazing that conservatives aren't afraid of John McCain's "100 years" in Iraq, Mike Huckabee's "change the constitution to conform to the unchangeable bible", or Rudy Giuliani's "let's bomb Iran now. No, let's bomb them yesterday." But the same people are TERRIFIED by the thought of a President who feels Americans should have healthcare! OMG! Get your plastic and duct tape. Here comes armegeddon. Please, mudguy, tell me what is "Scary" about Hillary Clinton, the first lady who dared to become a Senator and was re-elected.

If Obama wins, he won't pick Hillary. There is not a single added vote for Obama there. Anybody who would vote for Hillary would almost automatically swing to Obama against the Republican. If I were Obama, I'd pick McCain. That'd shake them up.

A good president needs his vice president to be his hatchet man to do his dirty work for him.

Think about it:
Eisenhower had Dick Nixon lead the red-baiting in the 50s.
JFK had LBJ ramrod civil rights legislation through in the 60s.
Reagan had Bush help deliver arms to the Ayatollah in the 80s.
Bush had Cheney to help destroy America and deliver high oil prices for his backers currently.

Conversely, presidents with weak and/or ineffective vice presidents didn't do much.

Mondale never helped Jimmy Carter
Rockefeller didn't do a thing for Ford
Agnew couldn't deliver for Nixon
Dan Quayle was in a class by himself.
Al Gore was a nice guy but couldn't help Clinton.

I think if Obama gets the nomination he should get a streetfighter like John Edwards to stomp down the opposition.

Obama and VP Hillary for the Dems vs. Romney and VP Thompson.

That makes the Hillary person the VP and the hatchet person.

In fact, there is no way the Dems lose this year. I don't like it - I just know it.

Where did you get that scary avitar snif?

I, and a lot of other people associated with the campaign, credit Mondale with delivering his home state of Minnesota and being a major factor in Pennsylvania where Carter won with 50.4%. Not to mention that semi-liberal New York was definitely in play and Carter won it with less than 300K votes out of 7 million or so.

As hard as it is to believe now when Barry Goldwater would be considered a liberal Republican, in 1976 Carter was considered a southern conservative and after Scoop Jackson was defeated in Pennsylvania and George Wallace in North Carolina the liberal wing of the Democratic Party lined up to oppose him, alternately backing Morris Udall, Birch Bayh, Frank Church, Sargent Shriver and Jerry Brown.

It was the selection of Mondale which mollified the liberal wing of the party. The loss of NY by itself or Penn. and any other state would have swung the election.
