A Happy (and rather tipsy) New Year'sI attended a concert at the Fox on New Year's Eve. It was a great concert overall (good music, no violence), but the one thing I couldn't help but notice was the man next to me wavering and stepping on my toes. This guy was clearly drunk out of his mind. Drinking on New Year's is a tradition around the world. Regardless of where you are, there's probably someone with a glass in each hand. While I have no problem with drinking if you're of age, getting so drunk you can't stand straight is rude, to say the least. Public intoxication is a crime for a reason: not because it's morally dubious, but to save you from certain humiliation. A middle-aged lady across the aisle from me came into the concert smelling of wine, and things went downhill from there. She began to dance. Not "wave-your-hands-in-the-air" dance, but "bump-and-grind hip-hop" dance. After a period of dancing and drinking, she then fell flat on her face. As it turns out, intoxication makes most of your good reflexes go away, including the one that puts your hands out in front of you when you fall. I chuckled a little bit, partially out of pity. Rest assured, though, she wasn't alone. I can understand trying to reclaim your youth, but please, not in front of the children. tennfan1's blog | login to post comments |
