Story Ideas for The Citizen?

Sniffle2's picture

What stories would you like to see in the Citizen?

Off the top of my head:
1. 2007 might be called "The Year of The Tazer"...what are the policies of the PTC police and the Sheriff's dept regarding the use of tasers? Do they even use them here?

2. Whatever happened to that additional documentation requested of Chief Murray by the GBI to determine if a crime had been committed at the Tennis Center?

3. Traffic citations in Peachtree City rose a whopping 40% a few years back (between 2003 and 2004), and lately it seems there have been an increase in traffic stops on GA 74 and 54 particularly. Are traffic citations on the rise again? (and how much of this increase can be attributed to Skyspy's blatant disregard for the speed limit? Eye-wink )

4. State Rep-elect Matt Ramsey made a lot of noise about state water policy during the recent campaign. What are his plans in the state legislature to improve the state's water policy?

First of all Peachtree City police actually haven't given me a ticket or even pulled me over for a warning. I have received many dark looks for my loud music, but no ticket(yet). I doubt that the number of tickets given out are on the "rise". If anything I would think they would give out far less tickets because of the way they have been treated by our councilFOOLS. Why work hard when you are being treated like dirt?

Fayette County Sheriffs Dept. are the only ones who have given me tickets. Mostly I get warnings, even from state patrol. I'm not complaining I just go and pay them, and resolve to do better.

I don't speed all of the time, just when I'm late for work.

When I get in my teenage daughter's car, love the music, but have to turn her volume UP Eye-wink ? I blame the jet noise, but I only play what i think all of the other cars around me will like to hear Smiling
kidding; kidding. And the "I'm used to going much faster in jets" excuse doesn't work either.

We could use the "we are old and our hearing is gone" excuse.

One cop asked to see my pilots license, which I do keep with my drvers license so I gave him that too. He was good natured about it, and he was surprised I had a pilots license.

Hey "Happy New Year" you must know my husband about driving too fast- as I told you we don't have a convertiable, just a sunroof Smiling, we have a way too much expensive son :-)who I adore very much. My husband has a long drive to work into North Atlanta everyday. Music, hey I play my music loud - I don't know how many cars I go by and they are SO LOUD- so I just turn mine up louder so they can enjoy my music also.

Met your buddy Hutch - great guy- you have to come to one of the coffee meetings. Hack I am looking forward to meeting you-

I hear that while "driving" to and from work. You know when you pull up next to a car and the windows are pulsating. Even Clayton's Sheriff Hill has made it an election issue as his billboard states "No Loud Music". Darn, I always wanted to drive through Riverdale and listen to "Big Daddy B" with volume turned way up.

When we moved to PTC and started receiving the Citizen on our driveway each week, we were shocked to see that the paper only contained editorials by conservative, right-wing zeaolots, local preachers, and that dingbat southern woman, Ronda the Rich. I knew then that we had arrived in hell.

We use the paper now, mostly to line the hamster cages. I know Cal can do whatever he pleases with his paper, however, he continues to perpetuate the stereotype of idiot, right-wing, Bible-Belt, southerners by not balancing the content of his editorials in his paper.

Look what we have to choose from... Michelle Malkin, William Murchison, Bill O'Reilly, Cal Thomas, Dr. David L. Chancey and all the Father's, Preachers, Ministers that abound in Fayette County. But keep throwing that paper on my driveway, Cal. My kid's hamsters really appreciate it!

All the writers you mention (except for ronda) are articulate and usually have good points. Personally, I would like to see Ann Coulter on a regular basis in The Citizen, but Cal shies away from her more outrageous columns - meaning he edits a columnist, but I digress.

You sound like just the type of liberal weenie who needs to read the left wing crap about how everything is George Bush's fault and how there is no problem that socialized medicine, income redistribution or an abortion couldn't solve. The NY Times is available on-line every day just for you.

By the way, you moved to one of the best conservative, family-values community anywhere. Love or leave it, dude.

like most of his kind, brain dead people aren’t capable of an independent thought. He needs to be led, by the nose/trunk, to a conclusion even if it’s not supported by anything resembling a fact.

Like I’ve said before, if you find yourself in need of 'fix' from the likes of Coulter, Limbaugh or Hannity you need to seriously consider getting professional treatment for an addiction problem.

To be fair, those that are in need of a ‘fix’ from the likes of Ed Schultz could benefit from a little rehab as well.

I know this will seem an impossible task to some but try thinking for yourselves. It will hurt a little in the beginning but you will be better off in the long run.

It’s funny, but you are exactly what I was trying to describe in my initial post, describing the stereotypical right-winger, who enjoys being spoon-fed the tripe that the popular conservative columnists enjoy dishing out to their followers.

You’re proving my point, that Cal needs to bring more ‘fair and balanced’, to use the Fox News tag line, columnists to his paper, at least to help educate folks like you, on the issues. Your typical conservative vs. liberal response (socialized medicine, income redistribution, abortion) is juvenile, to say the least.

Just look at our love for our mayor. Hear our glowing adoration of the adherence to our land use plan. Observe the very civil and professional discourse between political candidates. Notice how above board we are with our financial dealings. Robert, you are only fooling yourself. You want more Coulter? I dare say most reasonable people in this country do not want to read about "perfecting Jews," denying women the right to vote, criticisms of female soldiers and police officers, calling former senators and US candidates for president names that I can't type here, poisoning Supreme Court justices, or terrorist attacks on the New York Times you love so much.
Robert, I'll try to be gentle here. You often refer to "liberal weenies." Avoiding any mention of current day conservatives and their affinity to weenies, just what are your manly man creds based on? Tell me, what makes conservatives (neocons in particular) such macho men? What can I learn from you Robert? Honestly? I will admit that Ann is more of a man than most of us will ever be, but I find that weird, not admirable. Elevate your game Mr. Morgan, and start by getting me out of my "liberal weenie" rut. Do youur Haans and Fraans on us liberals. "We are going to puuummp yoouuu uupppp!"

Hmmm... pointing out to Cal and Co., that he needs more balanced editorials, is rudeness? Maybe it was the 'stereotype' comment I made that irritated some, however, you may have to develop a thicker skin, Cit-Steve et al. Most of the conservatives that responded to my post, were nasty, however, you did not point out their rudeness - why not?

I commend Cal for disposing of Ann Coulter, as he did, however, it would be nice to see more balance, as I mentioned in my initial post, especially in 2008, as we move closer to electing a new President. National news and opinion will take on greater importance.

Good of you to recognize yet another Brown screen name. Same old tired accusations, same old sore loser. He never recognized that his election was a fluke - never to be repeated and he actually believes he has standing in the community. Not a chance.

I do believe after the latest put down he will not be running for anything ever again. He has shown us that the household budget doesn't have a line item for political races and he certainly has no real supporters who will fund him, so he's left with the bogus high road of "not taking money from anyone" What a transparent fraud he is.

Cal will continue to give him free space just to sell newspapers. You can count on that. Using Brown allows Cal to print outrageous accusations that Munford or the others would never consider and the sheep in PTC read this stuff with the fascination of watching a train wreck. Cal is very smart in manipulating Brown - even if he's actually paying him.

A recently-retired friend of mine is planning on weekly submissions next year to counter Brown. I hope he gets the same amount of space.

that Cal sort of fell for the same thing alot of people fell for...namely that they will be better off supporting Republicans for office than Democrats. I truly feel that those people bought {as I said before} "a pig in a poke". Now they are beginning to realize that, for all the drawbacks that might accompany it, the Democratic Party is much more a party of the people and open to public input. Yes, the editorial content is slanted, but on local issues, I think that the paper is much more open to alternate points of view. I saw two commentaries from the Democratic Party, including a local platform. Keep the faith.

Democracy is not a spectator sport.

I agree with you whole heartedly. This news paper's on-line format is head and shoulders above any other I have come across. I have family in Goldsboro and Raleigh, NC, I have the job in Oklahoma, and I try and keep up with news from Texas, Arizona, and Colorado (former stomping grounds). But I find their papers so incredibly frustrating because I've been spoiled here. Hey, without this paper, I'd have probably never met Hutch, Cyclist, Pentapenguin, TonyF, EmmyJune, AC, and several others. And Cal even publishes my LTE's.

Thanks for this valuable and QUITE AFFORDABLE resource, Cal and Citizen staff.

I agree with Cyclist. There is an abundance of newspapers and TV channels that will give you the liberal viewpoint.

I remember when ABC News first hired George Will to do commentary on the ABC Evening News. Reporters were critical of their decision and asked who they would be hiring to "balance out" his commentaries.

ABC's response: "The same guy who 'balances out' Bill Moyers on the CBS Evening News."

Nice response.
