Election: Forget the paid blogers and make an honest comparison

Let’s talk about the election in much different way than the negative mud slinging of the paid Ramsey blogers.

Many on this site and people like the reporter from the AJC said Steve Brown is more polished and has more experience than the other candidates.

Do you want someone who’s articulate and compelling on the issues or just another member of the pack (or PAC) controlled by special interests?

Steve Brown has real government administrative and legislative experience. He’s created budgets and ordinances. His responses on the issues are thoughtful and intelligent. Ramsey's responses on the issues are rare and vague when offered. Go read Steve Rapson’s take on Brown in his letter to the editor. The only person who I can ever remember questioning Brown’s competency was Bob Lenox of “tennisgate” and police station on the dump fame. For most of us in this town, Bob Lenox has no moral authority to question anyone. Bob Lenox is behind Ramsey and is trying to stop Brown.

Yes, Matt Ramsey was a junior staff member working in constituency services for some elected officials. With the experience factor the scale tips far in favor of Brown and no one doubts Brown takes on big issues. He’ll be honest about defending his district. On the other side, what has Ramsey done, not just in Peachtree City, but anywhere?

We risk sending someone to the state legislature without a single significant accomplishment in Ramsey. He comes rapped in fluffy political rhetoric. Go and compare each letter to the editor from Brown and Ramsey. There's no comparison

Locally, Ramsey never (really never) bothered to step up on a single issue of local concern to the taxpayers. Where was he when we were fighting against TDK? The honest answer is he was working for Coweta Sen. Mitch Seabaugh trying to get it built.

Am I the only one thinking it’s disturbing to see a letter of support for Ramsey by Mac Collins and Mac can’t list one significant thing Ramsey did in six years of government service?

A lot of good people think Matt Ramsey is the sequel to Harold Logsdon and why shouldn’t they? They’ve got the same financial support base and both evaded the campaign issues. Even worse, they’re both connected to Sen. Mitch Seabaugh.

Challenge me on this if you think I’m wrong.

Rapson letter:
Former councilman on Brown: ‘Champion of homeowners’

Tue, 12/11/2007 - 5:23pm
By: Letters to the ...
I’d like to recommend that voters on Dec. 18 cast a ballot for Steve Brown for the Georgia House of Representatives. Politicians are good at making promises about making hard budget decisions, helping seniors and giving the average resident a voice.

During Steve’s tenure as Peachtree City mayor, he made those hard financial decisions and showed fiscal discipline by making immediate budget cuts in excess of $1 million to help resolve the city’s biggest budget shortfall in it’s history.

During his term in office, there were more funds appropriated for roads and cart paths than ever before; the city’s bond rating was elevated to the highest ranking and his administration left the city in the best financial condition than any other time in the city’s history.

He helped create and implement a senior homestead exemption and created the city’s first senior adult council.
Steve was known to visit your home personally if you had a problem or he would go to your neighborhood association.

He also visited the local schools to stay in touch with the youth in our community.

He was a champion of the average homeowner and has helped preserve the quality and character of our city.

His depth of knowledge concerning issues of state and local affairs will serve the community well. Steve’s past record reflects his willingness to fight for what is best for our community and represent the citizens interest above all else.

If you appreciate honest government, you need to vote on Tuesday, Dec. 18 for Steve Brown.

Steven Rapson, CPA
Assistant City Manager of Sandy Springs
Peachtree City, Ga.
[Rapson served on the Peachtree City Council with Steve Brown]

Collins letter:
I want to express my appreciation and support to Matt Ramsey for offering his candidacy to fill the unexpired term of Rep. Dan Lakly.

Dan was a friend, patriot, and representative of the people for all the right reasons. His work for the people of Fayette County and Georgia will be missed.

I have the same confidence in Matt Ramsey as a representative in the Georgia General Assembly as I had in him as a member of my staff in Washington and in Georgia. Such confidence stemmed from Matt’s work on requests from constituents, legislation, and the respect he displayed for the people whom we represented.

During the 12 years I was in the Congress representing the Third District of Georgia which included Fayette County, I had a lot of staff, some worked for a short period of time, others stayed for several years and most were very good at their job. Matt was with me for six years and I rank his work among the best.

Matt has very good work ethic; courteous, listens well, researches thoroughly, and responds to the needs of the question at hand. His response was always straight-forward and he wanted to be sure I had all the information on the subject in question.

Matt’s faith in God, love for family, conservative convictions and respect for our republic was with him during his service to the people I represented and I am confident those same principles will follow him as a candidate and as a state representative.

For these reasons, I have agreed to co-chair Matt’s campaign and I encourage you to support him for state representative.

Mac Collins

Thanks Jones,

You did a great job of presenting tangible reasons to vote for Steve. There is a clear difference in the agenda's of the 'same ole corrupt PTC players' along with their Lawyer Ramsey candidate and Steve Brown, who I believe represents the normal, everyday citizens of Peachtree City and Fayette County.

PLEASE VOTE FOR STEVE BROWN ON TUESDAY - DECEMBER THE 18TH

Well said and your words reflect my thoughts on the issues that separate Mr. Brown and Mr. Ramsey. Please allow me a moment to expand on another thought I have about this election.

Let’s keep in mind that the person we elect to represent us is going to become a member of a political system that is stuck in the good old by back scratching method of operation. The question to me is who is better to stand up for what is right for our district: Mr. Ramsey or Mr. Brown?

I have seen Steve speak out from the trenches for what is right for Peachtree City. It is this enthusiasm for justice that makes it clear to me that Steve is the right man for the job.

Certainly Mr Brown will take stands on what he believes to be right, and for that I laud him. What is of concern, however, is that by doing so he will alienate himself from the majority of our party under the gold dome. Fayette County runs the risk of being denied grants or, at best, reduced funding based upon the performance of the District 72 Representative.
Has he mellowed to the point of siding with multiple term contemporaries who hold the purse strings when it comes to something of significance to our district? If elected, I certainly hope so. But in reality, I cannot believe that in two short years that he has changed his character from what it was as our Mayor.
This election is of significance. Do we elect an individual who we know to be divisive, or an up and comer who remains noncomittal and vague with the obvious backing of the purported "good old boys."
Tomorrow is the day, let's all get out and vote if we haven't already. Fayette County deserves to be represented by a majority of the registered voters not just a concerned minority.

I think Ramsey has already been briefed on what he should do!

I doubt anyone has told Brown what he should do!

Take your pick for the least mistakes.

I liked what you had to say in the campaign. You and Sturbaum ran a good race.

Put Steve Brown in now. If he acts like a liberal jerk, vote him out in July. Heck, you can run against him.

Brown ain't gonna vote for more development or traffic in PTC. Rammy will.

I understand your concern, Mr. King, but truthfully, the next elected representative from District 72 will have the absolute lowest seniority in the state legislature. I suspect Fayette county will not see much, if any, grants or funding until the next general election.

I cannot recall the late Rep. Lakly securing much in the way of grants or funds for Fayette either...I could be wrong.

In any event, "nothing" is preferable to the shiny state-approved TDK road that I believe Matt Ramsey would "gift" us with.

No one is that bad!

But it wouldn't hurt for someone to go there who doesn't already have an agenda.

Steve Brown is the Safest Choice. I would agree.

Sniffles is Right About Brown

He can't hurt us much. Rammy can. Brown will be elected AFTER the legislature opens up. How much time will he have? Rammy on the other hand already has Seabaugh waiting with open arms to sign off on a TDK Bill in the House, complete with whatever "Goody Bag". He already warned us "I am ready to go."

So, What Exactly Is Rammy Going To Ram Up Our.... Whoops, comprehensive plan.

Andrew Dice Clay, you make an astute observation in stating that Lawyer Ramsey is ready to roll. His agenda is set and his financiers have fully funded their objectives.

The point you make about TDK is the issue. With it on the drawing board, Peachtree City as we know it is doomed. The only one of the two who actually supported TDK was Mr Brown before he was against it (Memories of a past campaign?). Pardon me if I have a concern about what this could do to our city.
Hopefully, Mr Brown can make me believe he is truly against this project this time. After all, wasn't it him who used substantial city dollars to promote the project?

I thought you were for it!
Might as well be, it will be done at this late date.

You say we perhaps need to overlook Steve Brown who appears somewhat divisive because he fought and bucked the 'corrupt and unethical lawyer / developer hacks' that he opposed? You think being divisive (standing up to the bad guys) is worse that profiting personally via government power at the expense of the taxpayers?

Perhaps it is a good thing you lost your election. I wasn't so sure until now. Shocked

Perhaps you need to read what was said. I simply point out two major distinctions between the two (my opinion). There are pros and cons to either.
Mr Brown is to be commended for exposing the corruption within Peachtree City, but in doing so he stumbled to the point of receiving some nineteen percent of votes cast in his runoff loss to our current mayor. In short, not all of his stances were correct.
Perhaps, attaining a conconcensus or maybe better communication would have won him an additional four years.
Never will I say look over someone, I merely point out the need for the electorate to exercise their right to choose by casting their ballot.

So he lost because he bucked something wrong, which most of those who voted the other way didn't know.
Better to do right than get re-elected (or promoted in the case of the military).

I only saw that you were making your distinctions as negatives toward Brown without mentioning the negatives of his opponents.

I merely point out the need for the electorate to exercise their right to choose by casting their ballot.

I'm sorry but after reading again your post, I didn't see anything that would show distinctions between Brown and the candidates. Only shots at Steve being divisive.

As for me... my thoughts are we put Steve in and see how he does for the next year or so. After that??? If he sucks, we'll hopefully have a better slate of candidates to choose from. Of the four that are running, Steve Brown is the cream of this

My apology is offered if I was not equally negative to both. That said, other than the substantial outlay of contributor cash is there to say about young Ramsey?
Should either win, there relection next year will be interesting because Mr Brown will not change course and Mr Ramsey's treasure chest will remain considerable.

You sir, are a breath of fresh air. Thanks to you, Sniffles, ptctaxpayer and others perhaps we have placed what I consider to be the most pressing issue facing our town to the forefront--TDK.
Now I have to get some work done.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
